Summary

This collection consists of samples with age data and associated information for available radiometric dates for rocks and minerals in Alaska. The sample records and their associated publications were loaded into the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys division-wide database. A legacy Microsoft Access database exists that includes dates for all available U-Pb, K-Ar, 40Ar/39Ar, and Rb-Sr data for Alaska through 2007. Previous compilations by Wilson and others (1990) and U.S. Geological Survey (1999) provided the initial source of age data. Additional radiometric dates were compiled from both published and unpublished sources. This legacy project added essential basic supporting information that not easily accessible. [...]

The user community must contact DGGS at dggspubs@alaska.gov or 907-451-5000 to get data export or copy of the geochronlogic database.

Purpose

This geochronologic collection provides a centralized source of samples with radiometric ages. Addition of the basic supporting data, where possible, will allow the geoscience community to critically evaluate the validity of these ages and to make their own interpretations.

This original collection record was derived from a survey of State Geological Survey organizations in 2006. It has been updated with additional records by funding from FY 2020 National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program, award number G19AP00077.
