606 reports and maps with pages varying from 1 to many hundreds. Most are private company engineering studies done for construction sites and commonly contain maps, soil and hazard reports, and geotechnical data. Some items are area geohazard reports some of which were used to compile some of the NBMG urban maps. Some items are private company water well reports. The items are cataloged and filed into three categories according to the area covered: 1) State; 2) County; and 3) 15' quadrangle. Each item has a unique written identifier. Site sources are in category 3, where the state is divided into 15' rectangles that are numbered. As part of this Inventory Project, these files were entered into the Open File Report Database.
Engineering Files
The collection was indexed by typed and handwritten notes in a binder. As part of this Inventory Project, it was entered into the Open File Report Database. Though the collection is adequately stored for present usage, the files are paper and are slowly degrading with use. The items will eventually be scanned as TIFs and converted to PDFs for the NBMG website. The original documents will be sent to the the University of Nevada, Reno, Special Collections for proper preservation and storage in a climate controlled environment with a proper fire suppression system. The metadata has not been compiled, but it will likely be included with that for the Open File Report Database when it is. The staff level noted in question 20 is for all of the NBMG collections.
