Paper files for 1061 entries for oil and gas well files whether drilled or not. The files are filed by: 1) dry hole or producer; 2) county; 3) operator; 4) well; 5) well file or log file. The files are copies of documents required to be turned in to the Nevada Division of Minerals, which is the main state regulatory agency for petroleum exploration. Also, the NBMG has some many files that predate 1954 when the state took over permitting. The files contain permits, sundry notices, logs, geology reports, scout cards, drill stem tests, and other items. Many of the drilled wells have cuttings that are described as a separate collection. About 670 files contain some kind of log, the electric logs of which are filed in folders separate from the well file.
