Description of Work The Science in the Great Lakes (SiGL) Mapper is a map-based discovery tool that spatially displays basin-wide multi-disciplinary monitoring and research activities conducted by both USGS and partners from all five Great Lakes. Purpose

In the Great Lakes basin, there are numerous organizations and agencies undertaking scientific monitoring and research activities with the goal of evaluating current threats and identifying management strategies that will restore and protect the Great Lakes’ ecosystem and resources. The GLRI Action plan identifies a multi-step science-based adaptive management cycle that outlines the process for guiding these actions. But this process relies on a thorough understanding of historical and current activities, as well as clear communication of the progress and results of these efforts. Having a centralized place where researchers and managers can go to identify relevant scientific activities and gather basic information about a project’s breadth and scope is crucial. The Science in the Great Lakes Mapper (SiGL) was created just for this purpose. It can capture information about any scientific activity (both current and historical), give details on how to access the data and results from those projects, and provide contact information for the principal investigators. Additionally, SiGL provides a user-friendly and efficient way to explore Great Lakes projects and datasets through robust search options while providing an interactive spatial experience through its mapping interface.
