Summary

This is a dataset accompanying the 2017 publication “Assessing the efficacy of corn-based bait containing antimycin-a to control common carp populations using laboratory and pond experiments.” Data are included for the four experiments conducted described in this paper. First, data for a gavage experiment including mortality of carp per tank, fish metrics (lengths and weights), and water quality data (pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature). Second, data are included for the leaching trial including mortality of bluegill and carp, concentrations of antimycin in the tanks, fish metrics, and water quality metrics. Purpose

Data were collected to assess if the common carp could be controlled specifically by incorporating antimycin into a bait. We collected gavage data to inform at what levels the bait was lethal to carp. We collected leaching data to ensure the toxin was not causing mortality of fishes by leaving the bait, but instead was being consumed. We collected mortality data for multiple species in tanks and ponds to see if we had created a bait that would be specific to carp. Data could be used in the future to create a similar bait with a toxin incorporated for the purpose of improving our design, be compared with in terms of toxicity, leaching rates, specificity, etc.
