Summary

Time-series data of water-surface elevation, wave height, water-column currents, temperature were acquired for 6 days off the north coast of the island of Kauai, Hawaii in support of a study on the coastal circulation patterns and groundwater input to the coral reefs of Makua.

Purpose

The continuous measurements of waves, currents, tides, and water-column properties (temperature and salinity) from these instrument deployments, coupled with deployments of surface drifters, surface track and profiles of temperature and salinity, and near-shore measurements of resistivity, provide information on nearshore circulation groundwater input and the variability in these hydrodynamic properties over the coral reefs of Makua. These data will be used to assess the potential for terrestrial groundwater intrusion on the reef and the sources and fate of these water masses.
