This folder contains datasets related to various independent studies of seabird ecology in the Caribbean region, conducted by or with support from members of the South Carolina Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit. Seabirds are among the most threatened birds in the region, with many species exhibiting large declines. Little is known about detailed foraging habits, foraging ranges, and movement patterns of seabirds in the Caribbean, however. Summary
Such data are typically obtained either through at-sea observations or through individual tracking studies. While limited at-sea survey data exist, those data are often collected irregularly in space and time within the region and therefore are of limited value. Much of our work in the Caribbean is therefore focused on individual tracking of focal species to address knowledge gaps related to the movement ecology of seabirds in the area.
