National Fish Habitat Partnership (NFHP) 2010 HCI Scores and Human Disturbance Data for Hawaii Linked to NFHAP Catchments (developed using the 1:24,000 scale National Hydrography Dataset) VERSION 2.0 This shapefile contains sub-indices comprised of various anthropogenic land use/covers respresentative of the risk of potential habitat degradation to streams within the state of Hawaii. This file is an updated version of 'nfhap_hci_hawaii.shp' and incorporates the suggestion from the Hawaii Fish Habitat Partnership of removing trails and paths from the road network to help better represent amounts of disturbance in remote areas such as the Na Pali coast. Subindices are summarized for local and network catchments specific to perennial stream reaches throughout the state. The local and network catchments were developed using a modified version of the 1:24,000 scale National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) as a baselayer.... Initial HCI scores were developed in three separate assessments (Conterminous U.S., Hawaii, and Alaska) due to differences in data availability across these regions. In the NFHAP 2010 Alaska assesment HCI values were already attributed to HUC12s. For this reason values for Alaska in this shapefile are identical to those represented in the Alaska assessment. To summarize data into HUC12s for the Conterminous United States and Hawaii a length-weighted average was used (i.e. the cumulative HCI score... The data were compiled through efforts of Michigan State University for the 2010 National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP) and with support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Aquatic GAP Program. All fish sample locations were verified and linked to flowlines of the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 1 (NHDPlusV1) using the COMID identifier.
