This module is a product of the 2012 CDI-funded project Python port of Geo Data Portal (GDP) client tools (WPS) with hooks for ArcGIS Toolbox. The purpose of the module is to increase the functionality of the USGS Geo Data Portal (GDP). The GDP, developed by USGS’s Center for Integrated Data Analytics, provides a powerful functionality to process climate and other large remote gridded data, returning summary statistics and areal tabulations over user specified areas. Currently the user interface is an interactive web form, returning a CSV table. This work allows users to access the functionality directly via a GDP Python module. Benefits: Enables scientists to bring subsets of climate models and other GDP...
CDI helped fund development of the USGS Geo Data Portal in 2010. In 2012, CDI funded two projects to increase the functionality of the Geo Data Portal. The Resources section below contains links to the Geo Data Portal website and deliverables from the 2012 projects. Principal Investigator : David L Blodgett Description of the Geo Data Portal from the Geo Data Portal documentation home : The USGS Geo Data Portal (GDP) project provides scientists and environmental resource managers access to downscaled climate projections and other data resources that are otherwise difficult to access and manipulate. This user interface demonstrates an example implementation of the GDP project web-service software and standards-based...

Mainstem rivers are the backbone of a connected network of hydrologic units that cover the landscape. A mainstem connects a headwater source area to an outlet. This data release identifies the same mainstem paths in hydrographic datasets for the world based on the MERIT hydrography and the Natural Earth river names. Made with Natural Earth. Free vector and raster map data @ naturalearthdata.com. See "Blodgett et al., 2021, Mainstems: A logical data model implementing mainstem and drainage basin feature types based on WaterML2 Part 3: HY Features concepts https://doi.org/10.1016/j.envsoft.2020.104927" for mainstems data model details.
GeoData Portal Python Toolkit pyGDP provides a fast and efficient way of making calls to the USGS GeoData Portal http://cida.usgs.gov/gdp/ from a python environment. Description of Work U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) will provide easily accessible, centrally located, USGS biological, water resources, geological, and geospatial datasets for Great Lakes basin restoration activities coordinated with GLOS. Managers, partners and the public will be able to readily access this information in usable interactive formats to help plan and implement restoration activities. Building tools and infrastructure to support standard data access, efficient data discovery and dynamic mapping of watersheds and their hydrologic properties. Developing decision support tools to enhance scientific investigation or disseminate project findings, for example integrating hydrologic models with real-time...
The National Hydrologic Geospatial Fabric (NHGF or the fabric) is a Water Mission Area (WMA) project focused on developing a web-accessible, middle-tier data system that will provide users access to the best-available geospatial data for hydrologic simulation modeling.

Note: this data release has been superseded by version 2.0, available here: https://doi.org/doi:10.5066/P976XCVT. The comid field of these data can be used to join to the NHDPlus version 2 flowline comid or catchment featureid attributes. The included attributes follow the same data model as the NHDPlusV2 but include numerous updates and improvements to network connectivity. All attributes that depend on network connectivity have been recalculated. These attributes are based on the National Hydrography Dataset Plus V2.1 (NHDPlusV2) network geometry and modifications retrieved from the National Water Model V2.1 (NWMv2.1) and "E2NHDPlusV2_us: Database of Ancillary Hydrologic Attributes and Modified Routing for NHDPlus...

This dataset contains modeled hourly streamflow in cubic meters per second at each of about eighteen thousand selected operational and water-quality stream gage locations. It was assembled from publicly available retrospective V2.1 National Water Model outputs (See NWM Retrospective source info). The streamflow variable was extracted from model output files and the data were reshaped to optimize read performance. The stream gage locations were derived from several ongoing USGS project gages for evaluation of streamflow, water quality, and real-time monitoring, however only National Water Model identifiers and NHDPlusV2.1 catchment outlet locations (as contained in the National Water Model output files) are used...

This data release contains the output of the National Hydrologic Hydrologic Model (NHM) version 1.0 aggregated to twelve-digit and ten-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) boundaries contained in the NHDPlus v2.1 dataset. The data are intended to provide "local" water budgets for each HUC boundary as total aggregated streamflow across HUC boundaries is not included. The HUC boundaries are periodically updated; this data release uses HUC boundaries downloaded on 10-26-2020. The NHM outputs aggregated in this release are calibrated using a step-wise calibration procedure to determine optimal parameter set and utilize the Muskingum routing (referred to as byHRU Musk-Obs). See Hay and LaFontaine (2020) for additional information...

Climate change is likely to have many effects on natural ecosystems in the Southeast U.S. While there is information available to conservation managers and ecologists from the global climate models (GCMs), this information is at too coarse a resolution for use in vulnerability assessments and decision making. To better assess how climate change could affect multiple sectors, including ecosystems, climatologists have created several downscaled climate projections that contain information from GCMs translated to regional or local scales. There are a number of techniques that can be used to create downscaled climate projections, and the number of available downscaled climate projections present challenges to users...

Note: this data release has been deprecated. Please see new data release here: https://doi.org/10.5066/P9W148A1. This dataset is part of the National Water Census Water Budget Estimation and Evaluation Project's ongoing development of best estimates of daily historical water budgets for about 100,000 hydrologic units across the United States. In this release, estimates of soil moisture and recharge are added to the already released estimates of streamflow and precipitation. All these estimates are made available per twelve-digit hydrologic unit code watershed as contained in the NHDPlusV2 dataset. As this project progresses, it is expected that a complete closed water budget generated from the same water budget...

Throughout western North America, warming associated with climate change is leading to both earlier spring peak streamflows and earlier seed dispersal, potentially reducing seedling establishment and in turn reducing the quality of riparian (near-river) forests, which provide critical habitat for diverse birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects, and food and shade for fish and other aquatic animals. This project aimed to predict these effects of climate change on cottonwood and willow tree regeneration in western forests by linking models of seed dispersal timing, streamflow hydrology, and seedling establishment, focusing on the upper South Platte River Basin as a study area. Results are expected to help...

Mainstem rivers are the backbone of a connected network of hydrologic units that cover the landscape. A mainstem connects a headwater source area to an outlet. This data release identifies the same mainstem paths in hydrographic datasets for the conterminous US. The Mainstems dataset includes cross walks between mainstem identifiers and several hydrographic datasets. These cross walk tables do not include geometry. It also includes a summary of all mainstems with headwater and outlet identifiers from other datasets for those mainstems that could be matched. The summary table has highly simplified geometry and should be used for visualization purposes only. Any analysis should rely on source dataset geometry. As...
This is a catalog of datasets available for processing with the Geo Data Portal.
This project sought to incorporate land-use land-cover time series data into the Geo Data Portal web service infrastructure. Till now, the Geo Data Portal has been used for relatively low spatial resolution downscaled climate data. Data from the EPA’s Integrated Climate and Land Use Scenarios was incorporated into a web service compatible with the Geo Data Portal and is now hosted in the Geo Data Portal catalog. Great progress was made in establishing connections between the Land-Processes Distributed Active Archive Center’s (LP-DAAC) holdings of MODIS satellite derived land cover data. At this time, the data is only available on development servers, but many issues were fixed and close partners are using the integration...

All these estimates are made available per twelve-digit hydrologic unit code watershed as contained in the NHDPlus v2.1 dataset. As this project progresses, it is expected that a complete...
