Declining water levels in the Great Salt Lake are part of a larger trend of decreasing water availability in the Southwestern U.S. that presents significant challenges for people, animals, and ecosystems. One challenge is that as some lakes dry, newly exposed sediment containing heavy metals can become toxic dust that blows into populated areas. Increased air pollution and other effects of drying lakes make it critical to understand and improve decision-making for shrinking lake management. The goal of this project is to work with communities around the Great Salt Lake to understand their experiences of decreasing water levels and to ultimately help resource managers and communities develop effective, inclusive,...

This model archive contains the input data, model code, and model outputs for machine learning models that predict daily non-tidal stream salinity (specific conductance) for a network of 459 modeled stream segements across the Delaware River Basin (DRB). Results are provided for two time periods: the historical drought-of-record from 1965-10-02 to 1969-12-30, and that same drought evaluated in climatic conditions that are consistent with a LENS2 enseble climate projection from 2057-10-02 to 2061-12-30. Results are provided for a total of three Random Forest models, corresponding to three input attribute sets (dynamic attributes, dynamic and static attributes, and dynamic attributes and a minimum set of static attributes)....

This contain a zip folder of comma delimited (CSV) files for each of the 19 tables in the report. It is produced automatically upon compiling the R Quarto code. Column headers are difference than in the tables in the report but order is exactly the same. Refer to the report to understand meaning of the columns. Each cell of the tables contain a management index estimate or the standard error of the estimate.

This project is an annual communicating memo explicitly designed to inform the Alaska Migratory Bird Comanagement Council and related partners of the survey results and subsequent population index for emperor geese (Anser canagicus) for incorporation of the data into the harvest management strategy and regulatory processes. This memorandum is additionally shared widely with partners outside the USFWS. The major products are an annual report in .pdf format and the associated R Markdown generating code.

Disclaimer: this is an historic version of NLCD provided for research and citation purposes. Different release dates of NLCD cannot be used with other release dates for correct analysis. Each release of NLCD generates a complete set of directly comparable products. These products must be used together for correct analysis. You can find the latest suite of synced products at www.mrlc.gov. The National Land Cover Database 2001 land cover layer for mapping zones 01-66 was produced through a cooperative project conducted by the Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics (MRLC) Consortium. The MRLC Consortium is a partnership of federal agencies (www.mrlc.gov), consisting of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the National...
Combined population indices of ducks and loons (YKD) and geese and swans (YKG) for the USFWS Region Migratory Bird Management Alaska Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Aerial Survey study area in a combined csv format. The survey consists of low-level aerial observations of waterfowl on a stratified strip transect design. The resulting data frame is several indices combined over observers (or single observer in years where estimates were not combined) and calculated using a standard ratio estimator. These data are output from the R package AKaerial and are also available within that package, see https://github.com/USFWS/AKaerial.

Descriptions of data produced by the project entitled “Incorporating Spatial Heterogeneity in Temperature into Climate Vulnerability Assessments for Coastal Pacific Streams” by Fullerton, Lawler, Lee, and Torgersen, 2017. Data are organized into three main folders: ‘Tabular’, which contains data tables, ‘Shapefiles’, which contains geospatial data, and ‘Images’, which contains maps and plots. The file structure and content descriptions are provided below. /Tabular:For each subfolder, a metadata file (“_Metadata_xxxx.csv”) describes the data and fields. /TIR: Thermal infrared (TIR) remotely sensed data for individual river surveys. Data were extracted from TIR shapefile attribute tables (see /Shapefiles/OriginalTIR)....

This project will build a Geographic Information System (GIS) database for the Plains and Prairie Potholes LCC comprised of1) wetland abundance, 2) land cover, 3) primary productivity, and 4) wetness. Ultimately, the database will provide foundational information for future research and will facilitate management and conservation activities for multiple species across the entire LCC.

Samples for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were collected from 10 domestic wells to assess the extent to which PFAS is coming from the groundwater aquifer or from another source within the home. Specific objectives included: Collect well construction information; Collect samples for analysis of PFAS directly from the aquifer at domestic wells; Collect samples for analysis of PFAS from two locations within the home to compare with samples collected directly from the aquifer; Quality Assure all data in accordance with USGS policies; and Release data to the public as a citable USGS Data Release. Description of Available Datasets: These data are available in Excel (.xlsx) files that contain water-quality...

The Rifle cluster is named for the city of Rifle in western Colorado, U.S.A. The cluster is dominated by mining explosions from longwall coal mining, especially in the Paonia region. It is known that many small seismic events in this part of the Rocky Mountains are the result of collapse of old hard-rock mines. Most events are in the magnitude 2-4 range; the largest event has magnitude 4.3. Two nuclear tests were conducted in the source region, the Rulison test on September 10, 1969 near what is now the town of Parachute and the three simultaneous shots (in a common borehole) of the Rio Blanco test near the town of Rifle on May 17, 1973. Unfortunately these events could not be included in the analysis because they...

The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (YKD) Aerial Breeding Pair Survey provides data on the spring abundance of targeted waterfowl species nesting on the YKD coastal zone in western Alaska. This region supports millions of waterbirds that comprise one of the largest and most important waterfowl breeding grounds in North America, including species of concern such as the red-throated loon (Gavia stellata), emperor goose (Chen canagica), Pacific black brant (Branta bernicla nigricans), common eider (Somateria mollissima), black scoter (Melanitta nigra), long-tailed duck (Clangula hyemalis), and the threatened spectacled eider (Somateria fischeri). The YKD goose, swan, and crane survey was first implemented in 1985 to monitor...

The Streams and Rivers Condition Index is a broad ecological system index that classifies the landscape’s streams and river catchments into condition categories. The classification of the landscape in this manner is used to measure the relative departure of current wildlife habitat conditions from desired conditions as defined by parcel-level wildlife managers and landscape planners. The purpose of the index is to help practitioners determine appropriate next actions in each catchment, especially when used in conjunction with relevant species information. There are four condition categories, or classes, which range from the most ideal habitat conditions to the least ideal habitat conditions.
