These data represent trapping effort and captures of deer mice at Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, California. Deer mice were captured and marked with ear tags to allow identification of individuals. The location of captures can be used in a spatially explicit capture recapture model to estimate density of mice and how mouse density varies by site and habitat type.

This documentation of regional moment tensors focuses primarily on larger regional earthquakes in the western Mediterranean region of Europe, with the majority of events occurring in Italy and the Balkans. Event parameters are summarized in CSV format in the file slu_catalog_eu.csv and graphically in eumech.kmz. The “Child items” links to processing details of individual events, with sufficient detail to permit independent replication of the resultant source parameters. The waveforms and event information were obtained from INGV and other European sources.

This documentation of regional moment tensors focuses primarily on earthquakes recorded by seismic networks within the Republic of Korea, usually that of the Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA). The data sets were obtained while Dr. Herrmann worked with students at Seoul National University. Event parameters are summarized in CSV format in slu_catalog_korea.csv and graphically in krmech.hmz. The “Child items” links to processing details of individual events, with sufficient detail to permit independent replication of the resultant source parameters.

Project Overview The iconic grizzly bear of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem has exhibited a remarkable recovery in response to concerted conservation actions implemented since its listing as threatened under the Endangered Species Act in 1975. However, information regarding the potential effects and timing of climate change in conjunction with increasing human recreation and development will be important for future management of this population. Investigating these potential impacts and providing manager with a range of actionable options to mitigate their effects is the goal of this study. Researchers supported by this North Central project will use grizzly bear demographic and climate data to collaboratively...

This dynamic data release presents an aquatic reflectance product with 20-meter spatial resolution derived from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery for the conterminous United States using the Atmospheric Correction for OLI “lite” (ACOLITE). Aquatic reflectance, noted Rhow in ACOLITE documentation, is defined here as unitless water-leaving radiance reflectance and represents the ratio of water-leaving radiance (units of watts per square meter per steradian per nanometer) to downwelling irradiance (units of watts per square meter per nanometer) multiplied by π. This is also known as remote sensing reflectance (units of per steradian) multiplied by π. These data are intended for use in remote sensing of water color and differ...

This data release contains the model inputs, outputs, and source code (written in R) for a redeveloped PRObability of Streamflow PERmanence (PROSPER) model (version 2.1) that had previously been developed for the Pacific Northwest Region (PROSPER_PNW_2), and a raster data set which shows where influential predictor values were outside the range of calibration data. The PROSPER-PNW version 2.1 model, a random forest model, was redeveloped in the Ranger R package using all the original model inputs consistent with PROSPER_PNW_2 to produce annual streamflow permanence probabilities for calendar years 2004-2016 at a 30-meter stream grid resolution that approximately corresponds to flowlines consistent with the National...

Project Overview Climate change threatens plants and animals across the US, making it important to have tools that can efficiently assess species’ vulnerabilities. In this project, CASC scientists and NatureServe are collaborating to update a popular Climate Change Vulnerability Index to include the latest scientific data, improved metrics, and new user-friendly technology. The tool will help state biologists and scientists prioritize conservation efforts, and in time for preparing updates to State Wildlife Action Plans that are due by 2025. Project Summary Climate change is impacting our nation’s plants and animals. To take preventative actions, public land managers need to know which species are most threatened,...

Human alteration of waterways has impacted the minimum and maximum streamflow in more than 86% of monitored streams nationally and may be the primary cause for ecological impairment in river and stream ecosystems. Restoration of freshwater inflows can positively affect shellfish, fisheries, habitat, and water quality in streams, rivers, and estuaries. Increasingly, state and local decision makers and Federal agencies are turning their attention to the restoration of flows as part of a holistic approach to restoring water quality and habitat and protecting and replenishing living coastal and marine resources and the livelihoods that depend on them. In 2017, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Lower Mississippi-Gulf...

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) is a nation of more than thirty low-lying atolls and islands, most of which are inhabited, dispersed across an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) over 770,000 square miles in the tropical central North Pacific Ocean. Monitoring environmental conditions for potential drought risk is challenging in such a dispersed Island nation, and current drought hazard products provide generalities regarding conditions on a broad geographic scale. A team of USGS scientists and managers of natural resources and natural hazards in the RMI used IMERG (Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM) satellite estimates of precipitation to develop content and a template for timely monthly reporting...

Project Overview Prairie dog colonies in North America’s Central Grasslands undergo cycles of collapse and recovery caused by the non-native sylvatic plague, and each phase of the cycle negatively affects wildlife or livestock. Researchers supported by this North Central-CASC project will develop a decision-support web tool for users to predict prairie dog colony dynamics under changing climatic conditions to help optimize management strategies of wildlife and cattle. Project Summary Prairie dogs are crucial to North America’s Central Grasslands, creating habitat for other wildlife by digging burrows and clipping vegetation, and serving as a key food source for many predators. However, the sylvatic plague, a non-native...

Extreme weather events (such as floods, ice storms, tropical cyclones, and tornadoes) are increasing in frequency and causing severe consequences throughout the U.S. and particularly in Louisiana. These natural disasters are especially devastating for farmers, whose livelihoods depend on the environment. Most climate research and extension outreach focus on large-scale farmers and tend to reach White farmers who outnumber other farming communities, often failing to connect with smallholding and African American farmers. While these farmers make up less of the total agricultural population and economy, they are a critical part of the agricultural and ecological systems and a crucial component in building sustainable...
