Coal Mines in the Colorado River Basin, and associated energy and water statistics from 2015 to 2019
This dataset provides the point shapefiles of coal mines in the counties within or intersecting with the Colorado River Basin boundaries compiled from various EIA and USGS data reports. The attribute data includes production (2015,2019), water use (2015,2019), and land use at individual coal mines. Twenty-two coal mines are included in this dataset.

This dataset provides land use polygons for 5 types of electricity producing power plants and 1 type of energy extraction facility in the counties within or intersecting with the Colorado River Basin boundaries. The polygons are coarse representation of the aerial extent of these facilities. This area calculation is used to fill in other information in this data release, and not designed to provide high-fidelity mapping.

This dataset provides point shapefiles for 8 types of electricity producing power plants in the counties within or intersecting with the Colorado River Basin boundaries. The attribute data includes the capacity (2015, 2019), generation (2015, 2019), land use, and water use (2015, 2019) at individual power plants.

The southern margin of the Archean Superior Province in the central Upper Peninsula of Michigan records Paleoproterozoic tectonic events involved in the ~2.1 Ga rifting of the proposed Archean supercraton Superia and the subsequent assembly of Laurentia. Within a small area of Dickinson County, Michigan, there are many distinctive geologic units with confounding structural and stratigraphic relationships that are key to understanding the geologic and tectonic evolution of the region. The samples included in this data release were collected for geochemistry to complement recent geochronological (Vallini and others, 2006; Ayuso and others, 2018) and geophysical research (Drenth and others, 2021) in the region. The...

This data release contains data associated with the journal article “Land and water use for energy in the Colorado River Basin”. The area of interest is defined by the counties intersecting with the Colorado River Basin (HUC-7 and HUC-8) and a shapefile outlining these counties has been included. The data release includes 4 child items and metadata files that provide descriptions of the processing steps, original data sources, and attributes. “Electricity_Producing_Facilities” provides information on location, capacity, generation, land use, and water use at individual power plants. “Land_Cover_Digitized_Facilities” provides digitized polygons of individual power plants and energy extraction facilities that were...

This data release provides volcanic plume heights from the summit of Kīlauea Volcano for 2008-2015, and during the eruptive events of 2018. For 2018, a Secacam Wild Vision Full HD camera with a 7mm focal length was located at 1717 m elevation approximately 15 m south of the Mauna Loa Strip Road within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, 19.475843°N, 155.363560°W (WGS84). The camera was pointed southeast to capture images of the Kīlauea caldera every two minutes. These images were used to calculate maximum plume heights within the full frame of the camera. For each two-minute image, the maximum plume heights above the Halemaʻumaʻu crater rim, and in the overall image, were calculated using the horizontal distance to...

This data release contains several datasets that provide an overview of oil and gas well count, as well as oil, gas, water production, and water injection volumes in counties that overlap the Colorado River Basin in 2015 and 2019. Data are aggregated in 2-mile squares and are compiled from data from S&P Global, which is a commercially available database. No proprietary data is contained in this release.
