This dataset is a component of a complete package of products from the Connect the Connecticut project. Connect the Connecticut is a collaborative effort to identify shared priorities for conserving the Connecticut River Watershed for future generations, considering the value of fish and wildlife species and the natural ecosystems they inhabit. Click here to download the full data package, including all documentation. This dataset represents a version of the ecological systems map (ESM+), originally derived by TNC and modified for the Designing Sustainable Landscapes (DSL) project. Major modifications include improvements to the classification and mapping of roads, development, streams, and coastal wetlands. In this...

NOTE: Two data download links are provided. The first includes the data described below as a geographic point layer and as a .csv file. The second link is a data package containing: the annual probability of observing one individual, the annual probability of encountering a large flock, and the monthly probability of observing one individual, for the full set of 24 species (in .csv format), and the associated report “Mapping the distribution, abundance and risk assessment of marine birds in the Northwest Atlantic.” To improve display of this data on Data Basin the point data was converted to a raster grid. This map depicts the mean predicted probability of observing at least one individual Great Shearwater (Puffinus...

Previous research identified species of invasive plants in Hawai'i which are highly flammable and act as fuels in wildfires across Hawai'i. This work aimed to map the distribution of these species (largely grasses) around the islands of Hawai'i with the goal of using the locations for species distribution modeling. All data represents presence data, no absence data were recorded. Data are largely from within the past 20 years, but some georeferenced herbarium specimens go as far back as 1905. Data were obtained from georeferenced herbarium specimens, vegetation plot data, citizen science data (iNaturalist) reviewed by the authors, and data from roadside surveys conducted as part of this research to map these species....

Separate data for floodplain elevation and bathymetry were collected on the Upper Mississippi River System (UMRS) by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Upper Mississippi River Restoration (UMRR) program. While many information needs can be met by using these data separately, in many cases seamless elevation data across the river and its floodplain are needed. This seamless elevation surface was generated by merging lidar (i.e., floodplain elevation) and bathymetry data. Merging the data required special processing in the areas of transition between the two sources of data.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is providing an online map of stream and lake gage water level measurements on Long Island, New York, April-May 2013. USGS serves this map and geospatial data as a REST Open Map Service (as well as HTTP, JSON, KML, and shapefile), so end-users can use the map and data on mobile and web clients. A companion report, U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Map 3326 (Como and others, 2015; http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/sim3326) further describes data collection and map preparation and presents 68x22 in. PDF versions, 4 sheets, scale 1:125,000. Continuous records of water level altitude at 16 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgaging stations (15 streams and...

We took hemispherical photographs (hemiphotos) at each camera station to estimate incoming shortwave radiation. We used a Canon EOS 70D SLR camera with a Sigma 8mm circular fisheye lens. We took hemiphotos on days with little to no wind or precipitation and early in the morning (5AM – 7AM), late in the evening (7PM – 9PM), or on overcast days to maximize the contrast between sky and vegetation. We took hemiphotos in June - July 2021, but nine camera sites were re-photographed in October 2021 due to poor quality of initial photographs. Overstory deciduous vegetation is rare at the study site, so summer changes in canopy cover are negligible. At each camera site, we placed the DSLR camera with attached lens on a tripod...

Snow hardness measurements were collected at camera sites from December 2020 - April 2021, at the same time as snow density. Camera sites were chosen by stratified non-random sampling. Cameras were never closer than 25m to other cameras, nor were they placed facing trails. Measurements were collected every few weeks as logistics allowed. Samples were collected near the camera site in snow visually similar to the snow in the camera viewshed to prevent snow conditions from being disturbed beyond normal camera deployment. Snow hardness was measured using a ram penetrometer or “ramsonde” (Snowmetrics; Fort Collins, CO). A ramsonde is composed of a hammer, anvil, and rod. The hammer is dropped onto the anvil from a known...

The resistance surface is the basis for the landscape permeability analysis and has a great deal of influence on the final terrestrial landscape resilience scores. As such, great pains were taken to make this dataset as reflective of actual ground condition as possible. Each dataset used was evaluated at several locations, and multiple draft versions of the resistance surface were produced until reviewers were satisfied with the data. Each cell has been assigned a value, or weighting, representing it's hardness/ impermeability to species movement and ecological flows. Higher values are more difficult to cross, while lower values are easier. Natural lands are assigned a value of 1, meaning the cost to move across...

Dataset contains locations of drainage tile permits in North Dakota obtained from the State Water Commission as of October 2013. This dataset provides the latitude and longitude of the location given on the permit, which is not provided by the State Water Commission database. Additionally, overlap of permit polygons (if depicted in a geospatial application) is possible from two permits that share the same area. Permit applications that were marked as denied or that did not require a permit as determined by the State Water Commission were removed from this database.

Ducks Unlimited CPC (Conservation Program Committee) approved focus areas for conservation easements and land acquisitions within the Mississippi River Basin. These regions are very important to DU's habitat restoration and enhancement.Focus areas are designated by DU Board for acquiring conservation easements and land acquisitions without going through three board committees for approval. Only DU's internal board reviews any new easements or acquisitions in focus areas.

Areas in which Ducks Unlimited wants to do the bulk of their conservation work - restorations, enhancements, and protection (acquisitions/easements) within the Mississippi River Basin. The data was last updated on May 10, 2013. The Platte River LCP boundary was changed to include Big Thompson Ponds SWA.
