Richard (Dick) Hahman was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1936. He grew up in coal mining towns in Pennsylvania, then later in Washington, D.C. He received his master's in geology from the University of West Virginia. His career took him through the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Chile. He worked for several companies in Tucson, Arizona, before going to work for Conoco Inc. in Oklahoma City in the early 1980s. In the late '80s he started his consulting company, Hahman & Associates, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He moved back to Tucson around 1997. The collection contains geologic reports, drill logs, maps, assays, photos and field notes from exploration in Arizona and New Mexico.

This dataset is a collection of unpublished geologic field maps and transfer maps that represent over 100 years of field data collected by Virginia geological survey staff. These field records include hand-drawn notes, strike and dip, contacts, economic, structure and paleo information. Some maps have been scanned and are available digitally. Most maps are located in our Charlottesville, Va offices in paper format. All are unique, one-of-a-kind documents.

Cores represent over 2,300 individual core sites drilled across the State of Wisconsin; stored in over 56,000 (mainly cardboard) boxes; representing approximately 650,000 linear feet of the subsurface. The Flambeau Core subcollection, approximately 3 percent of the collection of rock cores from Wisconsin, has extensive metadata produced as part of an FY2015 data preservation proejct. Documentation for the Wisconsin core collection is routinely updated, as information becomes available.

The collection comprises the Arizona mineral exploration files (mostly for gold and copper) of Cambior Exploration USA Inc. The collection also includes information from acquired companies Westmont Mining and Nicor Mineral Ventures Inc. It contains exploration data as well as submittal information gathered during the 1980s through 1999. Data was not received for some of the company’s major projects during the period, for example Newsboy and Carlota.

The Historic Photographs Collection includes approximately 13,000 photographs and slides in this collection were taken during the course of geologic, mineral resource, and geologic hazard investigations carried out by Division of Geology and Mineral Resources’ geoscientists beginning in the first half of the 20th century. The collection includes images of important rock outcrops that demonstrate key features of stratigraphic units, fossils indicative of the age of rock formations, outcrop-scale geologic structures such as faults and folds, economically significant minerals and mine sites, and geologic hazards such as landslides and sinkholes. Slides and photographs are available online in JPG format. High resolution...

The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) Mining District Files (also known as NVGEODEX) is a collection containing about 27,000 items consisting of about 150,000 pages of correspondence, reports, maps, assays, datasets, photographs, newspaper clippings, journal articles, company reports, and government publications. The media is paper, linen, vellum, mylar, cardboard, microfilm and fiche, and photographic paper. This database is the electronic index of the entire collection which includes links to the most of the material that was scanned through 12/31/2015. Most of the items were scanned as TIFs and converted to PDFs for internet availability. Access is through the NBMG main website at http://www.nbmg.unr.edu,...

Borehole geophysical logs: This collection of borehole geophysical logs includes logs generated by the Minnesota Geological Survey, and logs generated by others and donated to the MGS. All the logs are from boreholes in the State of Minnesota. This collection of borehole geophysical data contains natural gamma logs, single point resistivity logs, spontaneous potential logs, caliper logs, temperature, multipoint resistivity, and flow meter logs. Approximately two-thirds of the logs were collected digitally in a proprietary format, and are now available as pdf files. The remaining one-third of logs were scanned into pdf format. The stratigraphic interpretations of each log are available from the Minnesota Well Index...

The Field Notes collection mainly consists of hand-written descriptions of outcrops, measured sections, gravel pits, and other geologic sites in Iowa. The majority of these notes were contained in paper files, organized by county. Pertinent information from the files was entered in the GeoSam database and associated documents were scanned and uploaded for public view.
