GAP distribution models represent the areas where species are predicted to occur based on habitat associations. GAP distribution models are the spatial arrangement of environments suitable for occupation by a species. In other words, a species distribution is created using a deductive model to predict areas suitable for occupation within a species range. To represent these suitable environments, GAP compiled existing GAP data, where available, and compiled additional data where needed. Existing data sources were the Southwest Regional Gap Analysis Project (SWReGAP) and the Southeast Gap Analysis Project (SEGAP) as well as a data compiled by Sanborn Solutions and Mason, Bruce and Girard. Habitat associations were...

This data set provides industrial-scale onshore wind turbine locations, corresponding facility information, and turbine technical specifications, in the United States to March 2014. The database has nearly 49,000 wind turbine records that have been collected, digitized, locationally verified, and internally quality assured and quality controlled. Turbines from the Federal Aviation Administration Digital Obstacle File, product date March 2, 2014, were used as the primary source of turbine data points. Verification of the position of turbines was done by visual interpretation using high-resolution aerial imagery in ESRI ArcGIS Desktop. Turbines without Federal Aviation Administration Obstacle Repository System (FAA...

The USGS Elevation Contours service from The National Map (TNM) consists of contours generated for the conterminous United States from 1- and 1/3 arc-second elevation data. Small scale contours derived from 1 arc-second data are displayed at scales ranging from 1:577K to 1:72K in The National Map viewer. Contour intervals are 100 foot between 1:577K and 1:144K, and 50 foot at 1:72K. Large scale contours derived from 1/3 arc-second data are displayed at 1:50K (and larger). Large scale contour intervals are variable across the United States depending on complexity of topography. The National Map viewer allows free downloads of public domain contour data in either Esri File Geodatabase or Shapefile formats. The 3D...

The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is a geodatabase, managed by U. S. Geological Survey Gap Analysis Program, that illustrates and describes public land ownership, management and other conservation lands, including voluntarily provided privately protected areas. Please note that PAD-US version 1.4 is now the most current version available. Please access PAD-US 1.4 here: http://gapanalysis.usgs.gov/padus/data/. The geodatabase contains four feature classes such as, ‘Marine Protected Areas (MPA)’ and ‘Easements’ that each contains uniquely associated attributes. These two feature classes are combined with the PAD-US ‘Fee’ feature class to provide a full inventory of protected areas in a common...

With the launch of this Western Governors' Crucial Habitat Assessment Tool (CHAT), the Western Governors' Association and its Wildlife Council aim to bring greater certainty and predictability to planning efforts by establishing a common starting point for discussing the intersection of development and wildlife. CHAT is designed to reduce conflicts and surprises while ensuring wildlife values are better incorporated into land use planning, particularly for large-scale linear projects. It is a non-regulatory tool and not intended for project-level approval.

This report describes the design, field methodology, and first year results of a vegetation survey and long-term monitoring program to assess the status and document changes in the dominant native plant communities relative to alien species management efforts within the Kipuka Alala section of the Pohakuloa Training Area (PTA) on the island of Hawai`i. Kipuka Alala is recognized by the Army to be an important habitat that contains a number of unique plant communities as well as populations of several listed or rare plant species. Additionally, Kipuka Alala has been identified as a potential site for the reintroduction of the Palila (Loxioides bailleui), an endangered species of Hawaiian Honeycreeper bird that was...
