The Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GPLCC, http://www.greatplainslcc.org/) is a partnership that provides applied science and decision support tools to assist natural resource managers conserve plants, fish and wildlife in the mid- and short-grass prairie of the southern Great Plains. The Rainwater Basin (RWB) wetland complex in south-central Nebraska provides crucial stopover habitat for over 7 million waterfowl and 500,000 shorebirds every spring. However, only 10% of the original RWB wetlands remain, resulting in less available habitat for wetland-dependent birds. Conservation efforts are being employed to alleviate the loss of RWB wetlands. To aid conservation efforts, we created a vegetation map of all historical RWB wetlands based on 2004 imagery. Most severe disturbances in the Mountain States associated with stream reaches being scored as having high or very high risk of habitat degradation. Disturbances are grouped into large groups (fragmentation by dams; nutrient and sediment pollution; human population; road length and crossings; water withdrawals; urban land use; agricultural land use; mines and impervious surface cover) within the four spatial extents (local catchment, network catchment, local buffer, and network buffer). A GAP Analysis uses GIS layers provided by the GAP Analysis Program (species distribution models, stewardship data) to determine which areas within a species distribution have protected status and to identify possible conservation gaps. This GAP Analysis was conducted for Greater Sage-grouse within the boundary of the Southern Rockies LCC. About 7.6% of the Sage-grouse's total predicted distribution is within the SRLCC (based on GAP distribution models). We will develop a set of linked models to help predict the effects of climate change on rivers and endangered species. These will include watershed- and reach-scale models to predict streamflow, water temperatures, and other fish habitat metrics under various climatic scenarios for the reaches used by species listed under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), plus a combined bioenergetics and life-cycle model (to be done by the U.S. Geological Survey [USGS]) to assess the impact of these factors on fish growth, reproduction, and survival. We propose to test the model framework at a site on the Methow River, Washington, to explore additional opportunities for collaboration and model development.

The data of Colorado Parks and Wildlife public access property was derived using the boundary description in the area deed. The boundaries were descriped either using bearing and distances, or using BLM' GCDB datasets on a quarter, quarter section basis. A shapefile from BLM --GCDB of the quarter, quarter sections was downloaded and used for both a reference to help insure that boundary was being entered correctly and as a guide for traverse starting points. The shapefile was also used when boundary was described using the plss to copy the quarter, quarter sections described in the deeds and paste those into the dataset. This was done in ArcMap. Description of Work Benthos (benthic invertebrate) and plankton (phytoplankton/zooplankton) communities in Wisconsin's four Lake Michigan Areas of Concern (AOCs; Menominee River, Lower Green Bay and Fox River, Sheboygan River, and Milwaukee Estuary) and six non-AOCs will be quantified. The inclusion of non-AOC sites will allow comparison of AOC sites to relatively-unimpacted or less-impacted control sites with natural physical and chemical characteristics that are as close as possible to that of the AOCs. The community data within and between the AOCs and non-AOCs will be analyzed. Description of Work USGS will conduct seasonal sampling of benthic invertebrates, zooplankton, prey fish, and their diets to complement the seasonal lower trophic level sampling by EPA. A point of emphasis is describing the vertical distribution of planktivores and their zooplankton prey, to fill a knowledge gap on these predator/prey interactions. Synopsis: This study evaluates whether previous observations of a higher percentage of parasitism and parasitoid diversity in a complex agricultural landscape, relative to a simple landscape, represent a general phenomenon. Rates of parasitism and parasitoid diversity of the armyworm (Pseudaletia unipuncta) were assessed in three replicate (Onondaga, Ingham, and Benton) regions in southern Michigan. Synopsis: Prior to European settlement, the Northern Mixed-grass Prairie was a mosaic of wetland, grassland and grass-shrub habitats, with riparian and floodplain forests along major drainages. Even today, the physiographic area can be characterized as being one of the largest still relatively intact grassland landscapes that persist in North America. The Interior River Lowland is made up of many wide, flat-bottomed terraced valleys, forested valley slopes, and dissected glacial till plains. In contrast to the generally rolling to slightly irregular plains in adjacent ecological regions to the north (54), east (55) and west (40, 47), where most of the land is cultivated for corn and soybeans, a little less than half of this area is in cropland, about 30 percent is in pasture, and the remainder is in forest. Bottomland deciduous forests and swamp forests were common on wet lowland sites, with mixed oak and oak-hickory forests on uplands. Paleozoic sedimentary rock is typical and coal mining occurs in several areas.

The Central Platte River Image Library is an extensive dataset of historic 1860's surveys by the Government Land Office and aerial photographs from 1938-2012. All datasets are either public domain property of the U.S. Government or published by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture (RWBJV) with permission from the respective owner (specifically the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program or Central Platte Natural Resources District). The Central Platte River region of Nebraska extends from approximately Jeffery Reservoir (Western Extent) to Columbus (Eastern Extent). The library was completed May 2014 - Sept 2016 by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture.
