In the 1930’s the Reconstruction Finance Corporation was created by the Federal Government to finance the development and operation of gold, silver and tin mines. The funds were to come from the “Silver Purchase Act” which purchased silver from the miners for 71 cents per ounce and produced coins valued at $1.29. In previous years the loans were only available to gold, silver and tin mines but the law was amended in 1941 making the funds available to operators of all metal mines. The RFC contacted the Department asking it to provide an analysis and review of applications from Arizona for preliminary development loans. The Board meeting of 7/11/42 authorized the Department to enter into an agreement with the Reconstruction...

The Arizona Department of Mines and Mineral Resources operated from 1940 to 2011 to promote the development of Arizona's mineral resources through technical and educational processes. This collection mainly consists of large maps that were flat or rolled upon arrival at ADMMR. Maps that were interfiled in reports remain with their respective collections. Many of these maps were the original drawings from field investigations of the U.S. Bureau of Mines. Reduced or slightly modified versions are often found reproduced in U.S. Bureau of Mines reports describing Arizona’s mineral resources organized by commodity or mineral district. The maps reflect the changing nature of mining and exploration in Arizona during the...

The rock cuttings collection of the Ohio Division of Geological Survey consists of 3,100 rock cutting suites, a duplicate set of rock cuttings for 1,175 of 3,100 rock cutting suites, and strip logs for 400 of the 3,100 rock cutting suites.
This Collection of Strip Logs consists of various graphic representations of lithologies or rock units observed in measured sections or core holes. Lithologies are drawn on long narrow paper strip logs at various scales. Most strip log scales are 1 inch = 20 feet, but can range to 1 inch = 100 feet. Most of the information on the strip logs was obtained from the Tennessee Geological Survey drill hole log and measured section collections.

The legacy thin section collection represents petrographic thin sections collected by DGGS geologists for field projects involving geologic mapping in areas of Alaska with a focus to study the potential and controls of mineral and energy resources. As part of the mapping process, rocks were collected for petrographic work to provide information for discriminating between various rock types and to write unit descriptions of the final rock types or units represented on geologic maps resulting from the field work. The collection represents 27 years or more of work and over 15,000 outcrop thin sections from all over Alaska and a wide variety of field geologists. Samples are housed in various locations within the DGGS...

This collection of maps includes a variety of maps that convey attributes of the petroleum industry and its relationship to subsurface geology in Indiana. These include: well location, sample, producing horizon, structure, isopach, and porosity distribution maps. The maps are stored in 15 flat files and 10 file cabinets. The maps range in size from 8”x11” to 36”x42”

This collection is comprised of digital, slide and print photographs taken during minerals related field projects from 1970-2020. There are approximately 35,800 photos and slides that need to be culled, documented and archived. 81% of the photos are in digital format and most need to be manually matched with their locations from geologists’ field notes, although a small percentage have locations and descriptions that could easily be archived. The remaining 19% are slide and print format that need the same attention but are in fair to good condition for scanning purposes. There are 50 videos that are also part of this collection. These photos document field sites, geologic features, landscapes and landforms from...

The Utah Geological Survey (UGS) Geologic Map Database (MAPBIB) contains an inventory of approximately 2850 geologic maps covering various parts of Utah, that date from about 1890 to present, and that vary from formally published USGS and UGS Map and Bulletin Series maps, to informal consulting reports and internal unpublished ?sketch? maps. About half of these maps were published in production runs in which hundreds of copies were printed ? most of these maps are still widely distributed and readily available. However, over 1000 of the maps in our MAPBIB database were produced in only very limited numbers, are completely out of print, are in obscure or remote libraries, or are limited-distribution ?gray? literature...

The NJ Ambient Ground Water Quality Monitoring Network is a 150 monitoring well network designed to evaluate the status of and trends in shallow ground-water as a function of land use related non-point source contamination. Ambient Ground-Water Quality Monitoring Network Data This network is the only statewide shallow ground-water network in New Jersey that characterizes non-point impacts as a function of land use.

Minnesota Geological Survey (MGS) aeromagnetic data were acquired during a 1979-1991 statewide survey program, and were completely re-processed in 2005/2007 to recover line data that was missing from the primary archive at the National Geophysical Data Center, to improve line-leveling errors in the data, and to re-grid the data. This collection includes records for non-water wells in Indiana. Some County Strat Test (CST) wells are pretty shallow boreholes located within the state. Most are related to petroleum exploration and development efforts. Data includes completion reports, scout tickets, geophysical logs, sample descriptions and test results. Some records include small-scale geophysical and colored driller's logs. This collection is housed in the Records Center at the Indiana Geological and Water Survey, Indiana University, Bloomington, and is accessible by appointment.

Samples are collected by MGS staff at outcrops, from auger drill holes, and rotary sonic drill holes. Samples are processed by student technicians to determine sample texture (% gravel, sand, silt, and clay). Approximately 100-150 grams of original sample is stored in a packet along with subpackets of the gravel fraction, 1-2 mm sand fraction, and <2 mm sand fraction. All lab data are recorded on paper lab sheets stored in the lab. Technicians also enter data into the MGS lithological database. Grain count analyses have been completed by glacial geologists on somewhere between 25 and 50% of these samples. These results are also recorded on paper sheets and in the database.
