The hydrologic response units (HRUs) available here were used in the Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (PRMS) of southern Guam documented by Rosa and Hay (2017). A Geographic Information System (GIS) file for the HRUs is provided as a shapefile with attributes ParentHRU, Region, and RegionHRU identifying the numbering convention used in the PRMS_2016 southern Guam model parameter files and Rosa and Hay (2017) report. Hydrologic response units (HRUs) were delineating using the processing steps outlined in Viger and Leavesley (2007) and a 5-meter digital elevation model (DEM) derived by Johnson (2012) using the Joint Airborne LIDAR Bathymetry Technical Center of Expertise topobathy data (National Oceanic and Atmospheric...

This data set consist of digital data describing (ACEC) Areas of Critical and Environmental Concern for Public Lands in the State of Colorado. ACECs are designated by decisions made during BLM Resource Management Planning. Existing ACECs have a Resouce value tied to them. An example of these resources would be: Threatened and Endangered Plants. Other areas of concern have also been captured within this theme. When the users opens up the attribute table for this theme the user will notice ACEC follows most of names for each area. Some BLM field offices also included RNAs and ONAs with in their layer. ONAs are... Outstanding Natural Areas and RNAs are... Research Natural Area The data set was compiled from the most...

This layer represents Private Conservation Lands from the Protected Areas Database of the US (PADUS). Part of the GAP Analysis, PADUS is a geodatabase that illustrates and describes public land ownership, managment and consercationlands nationally. The lands included are assigned conservation measures that qualify thier intent to mangae lands for the presercation of biological diversity and to other natural, recreational, and cultural uses.

Project Synopsis: the Ferris Mountain project area consists of mainly timbered slopes, interspersed with upland areas dominated by sagebrush, grass, and mountain shrub communities. Timber stands within the project unit consist of Douglas fir, subalpine fir, spruce, lodgepole pine, limber pine, and aspen, in addition to scattered locations of Rocky Mountain juniper. Long-term suppression of wildfires has promoted the encroachment of conifers into shrublands, aspen stands, and drainages supporting aspen, waterbirch and willows, to the point where many of these communities are non-functional. Decadence and disease is commonly observed in terms of mistletoe, blister rust, and bleeding rust, and pine beetles have...

One of the greatest challenges facing the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) in the 21st century will be our ability to maintain sustainable fish and wildlife populations and meet the expectations and desire of our citizens. We approach habitat conservation and management on a landscape/watershed scale based on the needs of all fish and wildlife and citizens who either enjoy and/or depend on wildlife, and the land and water resources of the State. This requires a great deal of teamwork and a broader view of our responsibilities. Addressing habitat needs and issues that seek to maintain open spaces, non-fragmented, quality habitats and the ability of fish and wildlife to utilize these areas provides an opportunity...

This layer represents areas which have been proposed (per the requirements of Section 368 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005) as West-wide energy corridors for the final "Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement, Designation of Energy Corridors on Federal Land in the 11 Western States", November 2008. The layer was intersected with surface management agency, BLM field office, and state layers to add more tabular attributes.

Weed shiners are listed as endangered in Iowa. In the spring of 1990, one weed shiner (Notropis texanus) was collected from the Crooked Slough Complex, Pool 13 (river mile 554.3) of the Upper Mississippi River System. Prior to this study, there is no record of weed shiners collected in Pool 13. After the initial collection, a follow-up search for weed shiners was undertaken during fall 1990, and during late summer and fall 1991, to estimate relative abundance at this site. The Crooked Slough collection site was seined on three separate occasions, and 1,840 fish were collected. No additional weed shiners were captured. Therefore, the collection efforts do not support the hypothesis that the Crooked Slough collection...

The main objective of this project was to develop a dataset of large, anthropogenic barriers that are spatially linked to the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version 1 (NHDPlusV1) for the conterminous U.S. and the high resolution National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) for Alaska (1:63,000 scale) and Hawaii (1:24,000 scale) to facilitate GIS analyses based on the NHDPlusV1/NHD and NID datasets. To meet this objective, Michigan State University conducted a spatial linkage of the point dataset of the 2009 National Inventory of Dams (NID) created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to the NHDPlusV1/NHD. The pool of dam data included were modified based on 1) dam removals that occurred after development of the...

The Northeastern States contain over 17,000 dams with most built before 1910 for agricultural and industrial water power uses. A few have been built more recently for flood control, recreation, water supply, and energy generation. In many cases, the dams have outlived their expected life expectancy and use, but continue to block the passage of migratory fish species, such as American Shad, river herring, American Eel, Rainbow Smelt, and Atlantic Salmon, to and from their historic upstream spawning grounds. Additionally, the fragmentation of stream systems by dams have reduced Brook Trout populations in some locations. Progress is being made on this impairment as over 67 dams were removed during 2010 to 2014 in...

The National Conservation Easement Database (NCED) is a collaborative venture to compile easement records (both spatial and tabular) from land trusts and public agencies throughout the United States in a single, up-to-date, sustainable, GIS compatible, online source. The goal of the NCED is to provide a comprehensive picture of conservation easement lands, recognizing their contribution to America's natural heritage, a vibrant economy, and healthy communities. Conservation easements are legal agreements voluntarily entered into between landowners and conservation entities (agencies or land trusts) for the express purpose of protecting certain societal values such as open space or vital wildlife habitats. In some...

This map layer includes agricultural minerals operations in the United States. The data represent commodities covered by the Minerals Information Team (MIT) of the U.S. Geological Survey. The mineral operations are plants and (or) mines surveyed by the MIT and considered currently active in 2003. This is a replacement for the June 2004 map layer.

The Great Plains Landscape Conservation Cooperative (GPLCC, http://www.greatplainslcc.org/) is a partnership that provides applied science and decision support tools to assist natural resource managers conserve plants, fish and wildlife in the mid- and short-grass prairie of the southern Great Plains. It is part of a national network of public-private partnerships — known as Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs, http://www.fws.gov/science/shc/lcc.html) — that work collaboratively across jurisdictions and political boundaries to leverage resources and share science capacity. The Great Plains LCC identifies science priorities for the region and helps foster science that addresses these priorities to support wildlife...

The purpose of this report was to determine the feasibility of obtaining estimates of the concentrations of suspended solids in 1300 miles of the Upper Mississippi River System using remote sensing. The report includes: 1) a review of measured concentrations of suspended solids in different portions of the system. 2) a literature search of the spectral characteristics of suspended solids in water bodies in the laboratory and field and the use of remote sensing for qualitative and quantitative estimation of suspended solids in water bodies; and 3) the steps necessary to initiate a study to obtain estimates of error which would be needed because of the length and diversity of the Upper Mississippi River System.

The manual zoom transfer scope is a device that allows for simultaneous viewing and scale matching of a variety of sources (such as aerial photos, plats, and surveys) to a georeferenced base map, such as a U.S. Geological Survey topographic map. After the zoom lens is used to adjust for scale differences, data can be transferred (traced) to a stable base overlay (such as mylar or acetate) and digitized by using a geographic information system.
