GeoTiff grids of models of prospectivity for clastic-dominated (CD) and Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) Pb-Zn mineralization for the US and Canada (combined) and Australia that used data provided in this report are provided here. The models are the result of a study by Lawley and others (2022) that used a data-driven machine learning approach called Gradient Boosting to predict the mineral prospectivity for clastic-dominated (CD) and carbonate-hosted (MVT) deposits across the United States, Canada, and Australia. The study was part of a tri-national collaboration between the U.S. Geological Survey, the Canadian Geological Survey, and Geoscience Australia called the Critical Minerals Mapping Initiative. The original...
A green-tree reservoir (GTR) is a stand of bottomland hardwoods that is intentionally flooded in the fall and winter to support migrating waterfowl. Bottomland hardwood forest plots in the GTR on Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge (FNWR) are measured every 5-6 years to monitor tree survival, growth, and mortality. This dataset presents the measurements of all the trees in 54 plots during the year 2006. Parameters measured are species, diameter, vigor class, canopy class, and whether or not the tree is a new recruit in 2006. These parameters are defined in the Entity and Attributes section of this metadata file. Additional Information: A series of square 0.1 ha (31.6 m X 31.6 m) permanent plots was previously established...

A Groundwater Nitrate Decision Support Tool (GW-NDST) for wells in Wisconsin was developed to assist resource managers with assessing how legacy and possible future nitrate leaching rates, combined with groundwater lag times and potential denitrification, influence nitrate concentrations in wells (Juckem et al. 2024). Running and using the GW-NDST software involves downloading the software code (version 1.1.0) from the code repository (https://doi.org/10.5066/P13ETB4Q), downloading GIS data for the machine learning support models (child data release "GIS files required to run the Groundwater Nitrate Decision Support Tool for Wisconsin"), downloading the parameter uncertainty file (child data release "Parameter ensemble...
A multivariate regression model was developed to predict zero-order oxygen reduction rates (mg/L/yr) in aquifers across the State of Wisconsin. The model used a combination of dissolved oxygen concentrations and mean groundwater ages estimated with sampled age tracers from wells in the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System and previously published project reports from state agencies and universities. The multivariate regression model was solved using the Microsoft Excel solver, with 461 wells used for training and 46 wells held-out for validation. A total of 31 predictor variables were used for model development (56 were tested), including basic well characteristics, soil properties, aquifer properties,...

California’s Coastal Data Information Program (CDIP) has a hind cast feature that allows one to model hourly height and period at known locations back to 2000. Fitting these hindcasts to observed height and periods indicates that the hindcasts have consistent biases that can be corrected for statistically. Past work generated bias corrections for 32 sites in the Channel Islands. We use these bias corrections to correct hourly height and period hindcasts at these sites from 2000 to 2017. Data columns include: year_utc, month_utc, day_utc, hour_utc, cdip_Hs_m, cdip_Tp_sec, cdip_Dp_degTrue, adjusted_cdip_Hs_m, mean_sensor_pressure_dbar, Transect_depth_m, ubr_Sensor, Tbr_sensor, wave_energy, date, juliand, season, wyr,...
This is a release of data presented in the report "Binational Study of the Transboundary San Pedro Aquifer", Callegary and others, 2016: Callegary, J.B., Minjárez Sosa, I., Tapia Villaseñor, E.M., dos Santos, P., Monreal Saavedra, R., Grijalva Noriega, F.J., Huth, A.K., Gray, F., Scott, C.A., Megdal, S.B., Oroz Ramos, L.A., Rangel Medina, M., Leenhouts, J.M., 2016, Binational Study of the Transboundary San Pedro Aquifer: International Boundary and Water Commission. The United States and Mexico share waters in a number of hydrological basins and aquifers that cross the International Boundary. Both the United States and Mexico recognize that, in a region of scarce water and expanding populations, better...
Groundwater samples were collected from domestic and public-supply wells in the Eagle Ford study area in 2015–16, in the Fayetteville study area in 2015, and in the Haynesville study area in 2014–15. One sample of produced water was collected from a gas well in the Haynesville Shale in Rusk County, Texas in 2010, and 5 samples of produced water were collected from oil and condensate wells in the Eagle Ford Shale in Gonzales and Lavaca Counties, Texas in 2015. Groundwater samples were analyzed for major ions, nutrients, and trace elements; methane, methane H and C isotopic compositions, and C1-C5 gas composition; H and O isotopic composition of water; noble gas concentrations and isotopic compositions; tritium,...
The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, has quantified several measures of rating stability and the frequency and magnitude of changes to ratings through time for 174 real-time continuous streamgages active in Virginia as of September 30, 2013. Alternative flow (AltFlow) tables were developed as a method of estimating provisional flow data. They were constructed for periods with complete records of shifts and ratings between October 1, 1990 and September 30, 2013. Alternate flows consist of Qsame, the flow value from the shifted rating table used to compute the daily flow value at the time of the most recent flow measurement that corresponds to the gage height...
The United States Geological Survey’s (USGS) SPAtially Referenced Regressions On Watershed attributes (SPARROW) model was developed to aid in the interpretation of monitoring data and simulate water-quality conditions in streams across large spatial scales. SPARROW is a hybrid empirical/process-based mass balance model that can be used to estimate the major sources and environmental factors that affect the long-term supply, transport, and fate of contaminants in streams. The spatially explicit model structure is defined by a river reach network coupled with contributing catchments. The model is calibrated by statistically relating watershed sources and transport-related properties to monitoring-based streamflow...
These data are a geospatial representation of potential multi-hazard exposure intensity for the HayWired earthquake scenario mainshock, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurring on the Hayward Fault on April 18, 2018, with an epicenter in the city of Oakland, CA. These data take existing mainshock hazard data (surface offset, ground shaking, landslide, liquefaction, and fire following earthquake) and combine them into a single multi-hazard intensity surface intended for estimating the extent of potential exposure to these hazards. This vector .SHP dataset was developed and intended for use in GIS applications such as ESRI's ArcGIS software suite. These data support the following publication: Jones, J.L., Wein, A.M.,...

As part of the Hurricane Sandy Science Plan, the U.S. Geological Survey is expanding National Assessment of Coastal Change Hazards and forecast products to coastal wetlands. The intent is to provide federal, state, and local managers with tools to estimate the vulnerability of coastal wetlands to various factors and to evaluate their ecosystem service potential. For this purpose, the response and resilience of coastal wetlands to physical factors need to be assessed in terms of the ensuing change to their vulnerability and ecosystem services. Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge (EBFNWR), New Jersey, was selected as a pilot study area. As part of this data synthesis effort, hydrodynamic and sediment transport...
Monitoring the chloride (Cl) flux in the major rivers draining Yellowstone National Park (YNP) provides a holistic view of the thermal output from the underlying magma reservoir, and abrupt fluctuations in the Cl flux may signify changes in hydrothermal activity. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Park Service (NPS) have collaborated on Cl flux monitoring of the major rivers since the 1970s. In the past, researchers collected water samples from the major rivers in YNP, but funding restrictions, winter conditions, and the great distances between sites limited the number of samples collected annually. Beginning in 2010, specific conductance, which is relatively easy to measure and can be automated,...
This data release is comprised of a set of six time travel map shapefiles (two tsunami evacuation zones and three travel times) and three population exposure by travel time tables (residents, employees, and hotel visitors). The travel time map was generated using the Pedestrian Evacuation Analyst model from the USGS (https://geography.wr.usgs.gov/science/vulnerability/tools.html). The travel time analysis uses ESRI's Path Distance tool to find the shortest distance across a cost surface from any point in the hazard zone to a safe zone. This cost analysis considers the direction of movement and assigns a higher cost to steeper slopes, based on a table contained within the model. The analysis also adds in the energy...

In September 2017, Hurricane Maria caused widespread landsliding throughout mountainous regions of Puerto Rico. Nearly all landslides mobilized as debris flows (Bessette-Kirton et al., 2019), but herein, we simply use the term “landslides” when describing all types of slope failures that occurred during Hurricane Maria. To examine the extent and physical characteristics of landslides in severely impacted areas (defined as having high landslide density (>25 landslides/km2) by Bessette-Kirton et al., 2017, 2019), we mapped individual landslides at scales between 1:600 and 1:1,000 in four 2.5 km2 study areas in the Mayagüez/Añasco/Las Marías (LAM1), Las Marías/Lares (LAM2), Naranjito (NAR), and Utuado (UTU) municipalities....

These data include site- and survey-specific information for occupancy surveys of Dixie Valley Toads (Anaxyrus williamsi) collected in the Dixie Valley, Churchill County, Nevada, in May 2019. The data include both multiple surveys of the same sites and time-to-detection information to quantify detection probabilities and account for imperfect detection in assessments of Dixie Valley Toad occupancy. These data support the following publication: Schimel, D.S., 2018, Editorial: Ecological Applications, v. 28, no. 4, p. 869–870, https://doi.org/10.1002/eap.1735.
