Description of the community and its mission: Through the Science Support Partnership (SSP) Program, the U.S. Geological Survey partners with the Fish and Wildlife Service to understand and provide the critical science information required to effectively manage our nation’s resources.
The AMMonitor community is a collaboration of remote wildlife monitoring projects whose media data (audio, photos, and video and their metadata) comprise a repository for use in (1) ongoing adaptive management and research of wildlife, and (2) the development of new predictive models, via machine learning, for the automated identification of target species from media. Each collaborating project uses the AMMonitor R package and database structure for pooling data under a unifying framework that meets high quality standards for rich metadata. In January 2020, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) began work on the Interstate 26 (I 26) highway widening project that involves bridge crossings over the French Broad River (FBR) near Asheville, North Carolina. The NCDOT is committed to minimizing environmental impacts resulting from the I 26 widening project and aims to be a steward of the FBR corridor. To be effective environmental stewards, NCDOT needs to know when and where geomorphologic changes are occurring within potentially impacted areas. The Hydro-Terrestrial Earth System Testbed (HyTEST) project will provide standards, protocols, and data content to deliver a community-based computational testbed that will improve our ability to rapidly research, develop, test, and apply models across a variety of scales. In addition, the project will develop a transparent and adaptive governance process. This governance process will define the basis for assessing the performance of modeling applications. The HyTEST computational testbed and its governance processes will help produce a unified enterprise capacity for hydrologic simulation and prediction capacity.

LC MAP was originally developed by the U.S. Geological Survey in coordination with the Great Northern LCC and is broadly available for ScienceBase users to share, access, and analyze common datasets.
