The data set includes the daily streamflow predictions from (Long Short-Term Memory) LSTM models for 45 basins (27 basins in New England region and 18 basins in Great Basin region) in contrasting hydroclimate regions (water-limited Great Basin region and energy-limited New England region) in the United States. Also, the shapefiles of study basins and hydroclimate regions, and data to support the statistical results, figures, and tables are included.

Death Valley National Park, California. Furnace Creek Formation at the north end of the Black Mountains. View is southwest and west of Zabriskie Point, an overlook by Highway 190 about 3 miles up Furnace Creek Wash from Furnace Creek Inn. The base of the Furnace Creek Formation is at the topographic break between the badlands and the rougher, higher ground in the distance on the left. Light-colored playa beds about 2,500 feet thick extend to the base of a conglomerate which forms the dark cliff at the right. The beds are dipping to the right (north) into the Texas Spring Syncline. The center of the photograph looks west across Death Valley to the Panamint Range at Aguereberry Point; Tucki Mountain on the right....

This multi-layer GeoPackage contains the YKD Coastal Zone Survey design transects from 1985 to present. The original transects were imported to this SQLite database structure and saved as individual polylines named according to the year they were created (e.g., “main.YK_1985_Trans,” “main.YK_1986_Trans,” “main.YK_1987_Trans,” etc.). The aerial transects were developed systematically from randomly-selected start points and created along constant lines of latitude. The inter-transect spacing in the low, medium, high, and very-high density strata varies so that areas with higher waterfowl density are surveyed more intensively. Though the overall study area never changed, the YKD Survey design was modified several times,...

In 2019 a pilot study was conducted to determine the feasibility of using distance sampling to estimate density and population size of goose and eider nests on the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta (YKD). Distance sampling (Buckland et al. 2001) is a common and well-understood method to estimate wildlife population size or density, especially for sparse and hard-to-detect populations. A main advantage of distance sampling is that it accounts for imperfect detection and gives precise estimates for a given level of effort relative to other methods. The objectives for the pilot project in 2019 was to (1) determine if distance sampling is feasible on the YKD, (2) determine what aspects of the field protocol need to be changed or...

This is an SQLite GeoPackage simple feature vector database of spectacled eider relative densities predicted from a generalized additive model across the Arctic Coastal Plain. These density are “relative” because year- or observer-specific detection is not incorporated. However, the estimation model include observer as a random effect and predictions are made after removing the effect of observer (i.e., at the average observer). Each year is a separate layer named by year. Predictions are gridded into cells 750m per side but are trimmed to the ACP survey area, so some cells are smaller. For each year, the variable ‘fit’ gives the expected density, ‘se.fit’ gives the standard error of the fit, ‘Sample.Label’ is an...

This geopackage contains the density strata that were used to create the YKD Coastal Zone Survey’s current four-year rotating panel design. This file was derived from a mid-1980’s ArcInfo coverage, ‘Sampling Intensity’ (“SI arc”) that was produced through the visual interpretation of 1:250,000-scale LANDSAT imagery and the nesting density of cackling Canada geese.

The mission of the US Geological Survey’s National Climate Adaptation Science Center (NCASC) is to provide managers, policy-makers, and other stakeholders with information and decision-making tools to respond to effects of climate change on natural resources. In support of this goal, the NCASC wishes to support an exceptional mentoring experience for graduate students from select partner institutions in developing policy-relevant products related to managing climate change impacts on fish, wildlife, and/or ecosystems. For many graduate students conducting research on the impacts of climate change on natural resources, disseminating results of their research to managers, policy-makers, and/or other stakeholders is...

Death Valley National Park, California. Thin-bedded middle member of the Bonanza King Formation on the north side of Trail Canyon. View is north. This member, about 600 feet thick, forms a distinctive unit separating massive thick-bedded dolomite comprising the upper and lower members of the formation. Circa 1960. Results from Generalized Additive models (GAM), Random Forest models (RFM), and Cubist models (CUB) for three Dauphin Island Sealab (DIS) operated salinity sites in Mobile Bay are reported in this data release. These sites included Meaher Park (DIS:MHPA1), Middle Bay Lighthouse (DIS:MBLA1), and Dauphin Island (DIS:DPIA1). The constructed models predicted a 40-year daily salinity record from 1980 to 2021 at each site based on incomplete imputed salinity records and several explanatory variables. Explanatory variables included: daily streamflow from 8 United States Geological Survey (USGS) streamgages, daily minimum and maximum temperature, precipitation, vapor pressure, wind speed, wind direction, horizontal and...

This data release provides quantitative whole rock geochemical results from The Geysers vapor-dominated geothermal field in California. The concentrations of major elements are reported in oxide weight percent by wavelength dispersive x-ray fluorescence (WDXRF), the concentrations for sixty elements are reported in elemental weight percent (pct) or parts per million (ppm) from inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry-mass spectrometry ICP-OES-MS analysis, mercury is reported in ppm by cold vapor atomic absorption spectrometry (CVAAS), and ammonium in ppm from automated colorimetry analysis. The analyses show significant enrichment of volatile elements and elements such as sulfur, boron, arsenic,...

This data release provides semiquantitative mineralogy results from X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses of mineral scales from The Geysers vapor-dominated geothermal field in California. The mineral species and their abundances are reported in weight percent and values have been normalized to total 100 percent for each sample. The X-ray diffraction results show that the mineral samples from the wellheads are primarily composed of ammonium (NH4+) sulfate minerals and sassolite B(OH)3, whereas sulfide minerals such as cinnabar and pyrite are the most abundant minerals observed in the power plants. Mineral scales vary along the steam flow path, from the wellhead to power plants. Relatively abundant iron oxide and iron...

Climate adaptation planning provides a framework for Tribes to exercise sovereignty over wild resources important for the subsistence way of life and economic and cultural activities that are being impacted by climate change. The climate adaptation planning process includes identifying key resources that are currently being impacted by climate change, or that may be impacted in the future, as well as identifying practical and strategic steps that can be taken to mitigate or adapt to the changing circumstances. Through a partnership among the Ketchikan Indian Community, the Metlakatla Indian Community, OceansAlaska, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks this project will support Tribal- and Alaska Native-led...

This GeoPackage contains the analysis strata (“YKD_AnalysisStrata”) used in calculating population indices for ducks, loons, mergansers, grebes, gulls, and terns. This layer was created from the file (“YKD_DesignStrata”) when the existing rotating panel design was developed in 1999. This layer was originally created as an ArcInfo coverage, saved to a shapefile, and imported to SQLite Database format.
