A geodatabase was developed to compile mapped abundance raster datasets for 25 species/species groups (e.g., all duckweeds combined) for pools 4, 8, and 13 on the Upper Mississippi River system from 1998-2019. Individual rasters within the geodatabase have scores ranging from 0 (species modeled to be absent at that raster cell) to 100 (highest possible mapped abundance probability at that raster cell). This data release contains coastal wetland synthesis products for Chesapeake Bay. Metrics for resiliency, including unvegetated to vegetated ratio (UVVR), marsh elevation, and tidal range are calculated for smaller units delineated from a digital elevation model, providing the spatial variability of physical factors that influence wetland health. These datasets contain aquatic macroinvertebrate and water quality data collected from 159 wetlands in Montana and North Dakota within the Prairie Pothole Region of the Williston Basin.
We developed an approach to quantify Urban Heat Island (UHI) extent and intensity in 50 cities of CONUS and its surrounding area by using surface temperature from Landsat surface temperature product in a time series manner. Landsat land surface temperature from Landsat Analysis Ready Data (ARD) were used to quantify surface temperature changes from 1985 to 2020. The current study assessed UHI intensity and its variations associated with urban development in an annual basis. The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) version 3.0 dataset was clipped to the 12 unified regional boundaries for the Department of the Interior (DOI) to provide data downloads for each of the regions. The unified regional boundaries are primarily based on a science-based approach to promote management efficiencies. The unified regions provide better management on an ecosystem basis to include critical components such as wildlife corridors, watersheds, and trail systems. The Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) version 3.0 dataset was clipped to 56 State and Territorial boundaries to provide data downloads for areas of interest. The Census Bureau is the national steward for legally defined geographic area boundaries for State and Equivalent areas. The national sub-state geography geodatabase is updated annually and contains multiple layers reflecting selected geography, including state name and jurisdiction; this dataset is translated by USGS and used to standardize "State-Name" and improve boundary quality as a common reference for agencies contributing data for PAD-US. The Russian River Watershed (RRW) covers about 1,300 square miles (without Santa Rosa Plain) of urban, agricultural, and forested lands in northern Sonoma County and southern Mendocino County, California. Communities in the RRW depend on a combination of Russian River water and groundwater to meet their water-supply demands. Water is used primarily for agricultural irrigation, municipal and private wells supply, and commercial uses - such as for wineries and recreation. This data release contains reflectance measurements for eight samples submitted to the USGS Organic Petrology Laboratory in Reston. Samples include two artificial rock samples made from cement with organic matter added (samples 001-002), a coal and shale sample (samples 003-004, respectively), and hydrous pyrolysis residues for samples 001-004. Coastal wetlands are major global carbon sinks, however, they are heterogeneous and dynamic ecosystems. To characterize spatial and temporal variability in a New England salt marsh, static chamber measurements of greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes were compared among major plant-defined zones (high marsh dominated by Distichlis spicata and a zone of invasive Phragmites australis) during 2013 and 2014 growing seasons. The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Health, conducted a study to determine the occurrence of unregulated contaminants in source and finished drinking waters throughout Minnesota. Minnesota relies on both groundwater and surface water sources for drinking water, which may be vulnerable to influences such as wastewater discharge and/or agricultural activities.
