This dataset details individual species and natural habitat vulnerability rankings, including contextual study-specific information. This data was collected from original publications found through a literature search. Information is cumulative to include climate change vulnerability assessment (CCVA) results summarized in Staudinger et al. (2015) and published as of December 2023.
This data release contains the climate change model inputs and Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model outputs from 360 HUC-8 watersheds in the Midwest United States (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin), that were generated using the HAWQS (Hydrologic and Water Quality System) platform (https://hawqs.tamu.edu). The summarized data for a watershed-based climate change vulnerability assessment for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is also provided, along with the R code used to summarize the raw outputs. This dataset contains Sr:Ca of water and fin ray samples of native fish to evaluate upstream fish passage through a navigation lock in the Des Plaines River (Brandon Roads Lock and Dam). Fin ray samples from several native fish taxa (catostomids, ictalurids, centrarchids, and lepisosteids) were collected in two river reaches downstream of Brandon Roads Lock and Dam, and in a river reach upstream of Brandon Roads Lock and Dam. Fin ray Sr:Ca derived from microchemistry analyses of fin ray materials from a laser ablation transect is included as both edge values and entire transect (including edge). Edge values of Sr:Ca were used to characterize chemical signatures of residency for each of the rivers and make comparisons...

Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is a fatal, contagious, neuro-degenerative disease affecting multiple members of the Family Cervidae. First detected in 1967, the disease has, as of April 2024, been documented in free-ranging and/or captive cervid populations in 33 states, five Canadian provinces, the Republic of South Korea, Norway, Sweden, and Finland. The data provided here contains information on the known, available, documented distribution of CWD in the United States that is current as of the publication date. The USGS National Wildlife Health Center (NWHC) tracks changes to the known distribution of CWD in the form of a map (available on the NWHC website at https://www.usgs.gov/centers/nwhc/science/expanding-distribution-chronic-wasting-disease....

Data includes fish abundance and habitat data collected at ten sites in the Sandusky River, OH. Fish were collected using two 3.67 m long hoop nets with an initial hoop diameter of 0.91 m. Nets were set perpendicular to the current, opening toward the shoreline. Nets were set for approximately 24 hours and catch rates for each set were defined as the number of fish caught in the two hoop nets per 24-hour sampling period. Fish were identified to species, measured for total length (mm), and released. Water quality was taken daily at each site at approximately the same time of day with a YSI Exo2 multiparameter sonde. Physical habitat data was recorded at the start of each trial. Vegetation coverage was characterized...

In 2016, for the first time, an abundance of age-0 silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) were captured at several sites upstream of Lock and Dam 19 on the Upper Mississippi River near Keokuk, Iowa. These data were collected in an attempt to determine the early life environments and frequency and timing of the reproductive events that led to a large year class of age-0 silver carp. This information is important for informing decisions about control measures. We sampled these fish to determine age (days) and early life environments using their otoliths. Sampled age-0 silver carp were collected from navigation Pools 18 and 19 from July–October 2016 using a variety of sampling gears. We aged these fish by counting...

These data are the results of a spatially interpolated integrated population model (SIIPM) fit to count and demographic data collected from populations of Greater Sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus; hereafter, sage-grouse) located in Nevada, U.S.A. during 2013-2021. We used a novel framework, using integrated population models (IPMs), to express demographic relatedness among sampled and unsampled populations using geographic principles of spatial autocorrelation (Shepard, 1968; Tobler, 1970). Specifically, the framework pairs relatively inexpensive population count data with spatially interpolated demographic estimates. When conducted within a Bayesian framework, spatially interpolated demographic parameters...

Wind speed, wind direction (3D) and gas concentrations are measured at 10 Hz and statistically processed using the eddy covariance technique to half-hour estimates of flux rates of gas exchange between the ecosystem and atmosphere. Three gases were measured: carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor. Simultaneous measurements of environmental drivers are also measured and recorded as half-hourly values: photosynthetic photon flux density, downwelling and upwelling short and long wave radiation, air temperature, relative humidity and precipitation. Variable names and units follow AmeriFlux and FLUXNET standards. This site is a flotant herbaceous freshwater marsh in Salvador Wildlife Management Area near Luling, LA.

The dimensions of each organism were measured with a Whipple grid and the biovolume was estimated using the simplest geometric shape (e.g., cylinder, cone, sphere, etc.) that best fit the shape of each taxon. Shapes were assigned according to Hillebrand et al. (1999). Biovolume was calculated for the first five organisms/counting units of each taxon identified in a sample. The average biovolume was then used to calculate total biovolume of each taxon in the sample.

The risk of lampricide applications (such as 4-Nitro-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenol, TFM) to non-target fauna continues to be a concern within the Great Lakes Fishery Commission sea lamprey control program, especially among imperiled aquatic species—such as native freshwater mussels. The Grand River (Ohio) is routinely treated for larval sea lampreys (Petromyzon marinus) and this river contains populations of the Round Hickorynut mussel (Obovaria subrotunda) which was Federally listed in 2023. Given the spatial overlap between areas treated with TFM and extant populations of O. subrotunda, information on its sensitivity to TFM is needed. This dataset was used to evaluate the acute toxicity of TFM to O. olivaria and O....

These datasets (e.g., 'Starved Rock fish clearing_multi-beam imaging sonar fish data_Pre-clearing_Sonar-s1.csv') include exported information (e.g., fish detection counts) from processed fixed-location multi-beam imaging sonar and mobile side-scan sonar data. Fish abundance in the navigation lock was determined using mobile side-scan surveys, while multi-beam imaging sonars were used to determine fish counts relative to time (i.e., fish per minute). The datasets were used to examine the efficacy of electricity and underwater acoustics, used in tandem, to affect fish abundance (as determined by hydroacoustic data sampling).

The Louisiana State Legislature created the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the Northwest Turtle Bay Marsh Creation) project for 2021. This data is used as a basemap land-water classification. It also serves as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems or land loss within their project...
