These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This data set represents the presence or absence of Valley and Ridge carbonate rocks in the conterminous United States. The data set was used as an input data layer for a national model to predict nitrate concentration in shallow ground water. Nolan and Hitt (2006) developed two national models to predict contamination of ground water by nonpoint sources of nitrate. The nonlinear approach to national-scale Ground-WAter Vulnerability...
These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This data set represents predicted nitrate concentration in shallow, recently recharged ground water, in milligrams per liter, in the conterminous United States, and was generated by a national nonlinear regression model based on 16 input parameters. Nolan and Hitt (2006) developed two national models to predict contamination of ground water by nonpoint sources of nitrate. The nonlinear approach to national-scale Ground-WAter Vulnerability...
Groundwater levels have declined since the 1940s in the Wailuku area of central Maui, Hawaiʻi, on the eastern flank of West Maui volcano, mainly in response to increased groundwater withdrawals. Available data since the 1980s also indicate a thinning of the freshwater lens and an increase in chloride concentrations of pumped water from production wells. These trends, combined with projected increases in demand for groundwater in central Maui, have led to concerns over groundwater availability and have highlighted a need to improve understanding of the hydrologic effects of proposed groundwater withdrawals in the Waiheʻe, ʻĪao, and Waikapū areas of central Maui. A three-dimensional, variable-density solute-transport...

This dataset consists of a workspace (folder) containing four gridded datasets and a personal geodatabase. This data set represents the estimated percentage of the 1-km grid cell that is covered by or subject to the agricultural conservation practice (CP606), Subsurface Drains (SD) on agricultural land by county. Subsurface Drains are described as "a conduit, such as corrugated plastic tubing, tile, or pipe, installed beneath the ground surface to collect and/or convey drainage." (U.S. Department of Agriculture, 1995) This data set was...

The U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, constructed a finite-difference numerical groundwater-flow model of the Salt Fork Red River aquifer using MODFLOW with the Newton formulation solver (MODFLOW-NWT). The 1973 Oklahoma Water Law requires the Oklahoma Water Resources Board to conduct hydrologic investigations of the State’s aquifers to support a determination of the maximum annual yield (MAY) for each groundwater basin. The MAY is defined as the amount of fresh groundwater that can be withdrawn annually while ensuring a minimum 20-year life of the groundwater basin. For alluvium and terrace aquifers, the groundwater-basin-life requirement is satisfied if, after 20 years...

This data set consists of digital polygons of a constant recharge rate for the alluvial and terrace deposits along the Cimarron River from Freedom to Guthrie in northwestern Oklahoma. Ground water in 1,305 square miles of Quaternary-age alluvial and terrace deposits along the the Cimarron River from Freedom to Guthrie is an important source of water for irrigation, industrial, municipal, stock, and domestic supplies. Alluvial and...
A three-dimensional groundwater flow model was developed to simulate the effects of withdrawals on the groundwater-flow systems of five aquifers in and around Ocean County, New Jersey—the unconfined Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer system and Vincentown aquifer, and three confined aquifers--the Rio Grande water-bearing zone, the Atlantic City 800-foot sand, and the Piney Point aquifer. A transient model was used to simulate conditions that represent no groundwater withdrawals, 2000–2003 groundwater withdrawals, and maximum-allocation groundwater withdrawals. Particle-tracking analysis, using results from two steady-state simulations, determine flow paths and travel times to near-shore wells screened in the unconfined Kirkwood-Cohansey...
