In cooperation with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) utilized various field and laboratory methods to determine the presence and concentration of cyanobacteria, cyanotoxins, and taste-and-odor compounds in Texas water bodies. This data release documents the results from water-quality samples collected from 41 water bodies in Texas during 2016–19. Both qualitative and quantitative field and laboratory methods were performed. These monthly water-use rasters estimate the total amount of groundwater used for aquaculture and irrigation purposes within the Mississippi Alluvial Plain during the growing season (April-October). This dataset contains 133 monthly water-use rasters that are totals of 6 different categories: aquaculture, cotton, corn, rice, soybeans, and all other crops. Units are in cubic meters per square mile. Aquaculture and irrigation water-use estimates are included in this data release in two different formats: georeferenced TIFFs (GeoTIFFs) for simple viewing and geospatial operations and a network common data form (NetCDF) for use in modeling applications and with each month as a separate raster array table.

These data were collected as part of a field trial to test the effectiveness of a sylvatic plague vaccine (see Rocke et al., 2017 for details). Vaccine and control plots were selected randomly from the available pairs at each location. Baits containing Rhodamine B, a biomarker, were distributed at each plot. At least 1 week and no more than 2 months post-baiting each year, local collaborators captured, marked, and sampled prairie dogs. Hair and whisker samples were collected from up to 50 unique prairie dogs from each plot each year. This data release documents water-quality data obtained from Ray Hubbard Lake, Grapevine Lake, Ray Roberts Lake, and Lake Lewisville during water years 2016-20. In addition to nutrient and major-ion concentrations, water-quality field properties and other selected constituents measured in the water-quality samples collected from these reservoirs are documented. The blue water evapotranspiration (BWET) raster dataset at 30-meter resolution is created to estimate agricultural irrigation water consumption. These data were used to quantify land area change in a wetlands possible zone of coastal wetlands during a 1985-2020 observation period. The datasets presented in this data release represent annual median estimates of the fractional amount of land, floating aquatic vegetation, submerged aquatic vegetation, and water per Landsat pixel. These data are intended for coarse-scale analysis of wetland change area. The datasets are summarized by 10-digit Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC10), and land area change through time is fit using a penalized regression smooth spline. The trends are therefore generalized in time and are intended to present coarse scale observations of trends in wetland area change.
