The original time series and cross power data were stored in Binary format on 3.5" disks until further conversion was needed. To convert the time series and cross power data to a format that can be used for modeling, the original binary files were converted to ASCII format using Basic 4.0 code and associated subroutines (see Magnetotelluric_Original-Code_Binary-to-Ascii.txt and Magnetotelluric_Original-Code_Binary-to-Ascii-Subroutines.txt attached to the binary data ScienceBase item). The DaR project used these converted ASCII format files to create the EDI format files included in this data release. The binary data are considered the original data for the magnetotelluric survey, therefore, they are provided with...

This data release presents beach topography and nearshore bathymetry data from repeated surveys in northern Monterey Bay, California to document changes in shoreline position and coastal morphology as they relate to episodic (storms), seasonal, and interannual and longer (e.g. El Niño) processes. The ongoing monitoring program was initiated in October 2014 with semi-annual surveys performed in late summer (September or October) and Spring (March). Nearshore bathymetry and topography data were collected along a series of shore-perpendicular transects spaced primarily at 50-250 m intervals between Santa Cruz and Moss Landing, California (fig. 1). The transects were located along sandy stretches of the coastline...

This portion of the USGS data release presents topography data collected during surveys performed along northern Monterey Bay, California, in March 2017 (USGS Field Activity Number 2017-620-FA). Topographic profiles were collected on foot with GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. Prior to data collection, vertical distances between the GNSS antennas and the ground were measured using a tape measure. Hand-held data collectors were used to log raw data and display navigational information allowing surveyors to navigate survey lines spaced at 50- to 250-m intervals along the beach. Profiles were surveyed from the landward edge of the study area (either the base of a bluff, engineering structure, or just landward of...

This portion of the USGS data release presents bathymetry data collected during surveys performed in northern Monterey Bay, California in September 2016 (USGS Field Activity Number 2016-674-FA). Bathymetry data were collected using a personal watercraft (PWC) and small boat equipped with single-beam sonar systems and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. The sonar systems consisted of an Odom Echotrac CV-100 single-beam echosounder and 200 kHz transducer with a 9° beam angle. Raw acoustic backscatter returns were digitized by the echosounder with a vertical resolution of 1.25 cm. Depths from the echosounders were computed using sound velocity profiles measured using a YSI CastAway CTD during the survey....

This part of the data release presents topography data from northern Monterey Bay, California collected in March 2016 using a tripod-mounted Riegl VZ-1000 lidar scanner (USGS Field Activity 2016-627-FA). For each area surveyed, the scanner was placed at several positions which were selected to provide maximum line-of-sight coverage of the area of interest. Scans were typically conducted in panoramic mode, creating a detailed point cloud of all unobstructed surfaces in a 360 degree view of the scanner. At each scan position, co-registered photographic imagery was also collected with a scanner mounted DSLR camera. Scanner registration was performed by placing four or more cylindrical or flat reflective tripod-mounted...

This portion of the USGS data release presents digital elevation models (DEMs) derived from bathymetric and topographic surveys conducted along northern Monterey Bay, California, in September 2017 (USGS Field Activity Number 2017-678-FA). Nearshore bathymetry data were collected using two personal watercraft (PWCs) equipped with single-beam echosounders and survey-grade global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. Topography data were collected using an all-terrain vehicle equipped with a GNSS receiver and on foot with GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. Additional topography data were collected with a terrestrial lidar scanner. Positions of the survey platforms were referenced to a GNSS base station placed...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geology, Geophysics and Geochemistry Science Center (GGGSC) collaborated with the USGS Science Analytics and Synthesis (SAS) team to preserve and release a subset of magnetotelluric data from the San Andreas Fault in Loma Prieta, California. The San Andreas Fault data were collected by the Branch of Geophysics, a precursor to the now GGGSC, between 1989 and 1994. The magnetotelluric data selected for this preservation project were collected in 1989 and 1990 using USGS portable truck mounted systems that measure the distribution of electrical conductivity beneath the surface of the earth. Truck mounted systems of this era output data to 3.5” discs, from which data were recovered...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This digital dataset contains the virtual wells used for urban (municipal and industrial use) pumpage for the Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM). The Central Valley encompasses an approximate 50,000 square-kilometer region of California. The complex hydrologic system of the Central Valley is simulated using the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) numerical modeling code MODFLOW-FMP (Schmid and others, 2006). This application is referred...

This portion of the data release presents a digital surface model (DSM) and digital elevation model (DEM) of the exposed Los Padres Reservoir delta where the Carmel River enters the reservoir. The DSM and DEM have a resolution of 10 centimeters per pixel and were derived from structure-from-motion (SfM) processing of aerial imagery collected with an unoccupied aerial system (UAS) on 2017-11-01. The DSM represents the elevation of the highest object within the bounds of a cell, including vegetation, woody debris and other objects. The DEM represent the elevation of the ground surface where it was visible to the acquisiton system. Due to the nature of SfM processing, the DEM may not represent a true bare-earth surface...

Rainfall measurements were collected in and near the Dolan Fire burn area, Los Padres National Forest, California. The CZU Fire ignited in Los Padres National Forest, California, on August 18, 2020. By the time of full containment on December 31, 2020, the fire had burned 518 km2 (128,050 acres) in Monterey County. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) installed seven rain gages in and near the Dolan Fire burn area in October 2021 to measure rainfall during two post-fire wet seasons. This data release contains rain records from the Mill Creek and upper Nacimiento River watersheds collected during water year 2023 (October 1, 2022, through spring 2023). Previous datasets from this region included an additional rain gage...
