The Geologic Map Index of Alaska (Map Index) is an online, interactive web mapping application that provides access to an actively growing geographic index of geology-related maps of Alaska and adjacent areas. This online research tool provides the locations and outlines of most DGGS and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geologic and geophysical maps of Alaska in a single, interactive web map. It allows searches of the map database by geographic area of interest, keywords, themes, publishing agency, dates, and other criteria. The search results provide links to DGGS's comprehensive, multi-agency publications database, where users may view and download publications for free. No other geographic index of Alaska geologic...

As part of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) effort to make final recommendations of federal land parcels to be considered for selection by the State of Alaska according to provisions of the Statehood Act, a decision was made to identify and evaluate potential access corridors. Corridor maps were compiled for a total of 78 quadrangles throughout Alaska. This map suite shows relevant geologic information at a scale of 1:250,000 for 10-mile-wide corridors straddling centerlines for proposed access routes throughout Alaska. The maps are based on geologic data compiled from existing, published mapping. Each compiled corridor geology map was used to derive maps of potential construction materials, data quality,...

Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) carried out a geological field survey, including mapping and sampling in the Chistochina mining district in the Mount Hayes A-2 and A-3 quadrangles, Alaska, from June 30 to July 15, 2009. The fieldwork provides basic information critical to building an understanding of Alaska's geology and is part of an integrated program of airborne geophysical surveys followed by geological mapping. During 2009, 57 rock samples were collected for geochemical trace-element analysis, 107 rock samples were collected for whole rock (major- and minor-oxide and petrogenetically important trace elements) analyses, and 2 samples were collected...

Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys carried out a geological field survey, including mapping and sampling near Livengood in the Livengood B-3 and B-4 quadrangles, Alaska from June 10 to June 30, 2010. The fieldwork provides basic information critical to building an understanding of Alaska’s geology and is part of an integrated program of airborne geophysical surveys followed by geological mapping. During 2010, 130 rock samples were collected for geochemical trace-element analysis, and 20 rock samples were collected for whole rock (major- and minor-oxide) analysis. Petrogenetically important trace elements for additional rock samples will be analyzed and published...

Geologic studies of the upper Chena River area were undertaken in 1983 as part of the Interior Mining District Evaluation Program, a series of projects designed to develop new information on known mineral districts in interior Alaska. During the three-year course of the program, geologists examined four districts that have contributed significantly to historical gold production in Alaska's Interior, Fairbanks, Livengood, Richardson, and upper Chena River.

The Alaska Division of Geological & Geological Surveys (DGGS) personnel collected rock samples while conducting stratigraphic studies in the Beluga and Sterling Fomrations in the Homer area of Cook Inlet.Funding for this stratigraphic work was provided by Benchmark Oil and Gas, Pioneer Natural Resources, Chevron North American Exploration and production Company, and the State of Alaska. This data set conveys information about samples collected during fieldwork in the Homer area of Cook Inlet.Samples were collected from outcrops for Mercury Injection Capillary Pressure (MICP) analyses.Analytical data from these rock samples are tabulated in this publication.

Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys carried out a geological field survey, including mapping and sampling northeast of Fairbanks in the Circle A-4, A-5, B-4, and B-5 quadrangles, Alaska from May 31 to June 28, 2007. The fieldwork provides basic information critical to building an understanding of Alaska geology and is part of an integrated program of airborne geophysical surveys followed by geological mapping. During 2007, 128 rock samples were collected for geochemical trace-element analysis, and 44 rock samples were collected for whole rock (major- and minor-oxide) analysis. Petrogenetically important trace-elements will be analyzed in a subsequent study to...

The Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) has conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping of the Eagle A-1 Quadrangle. The area is part of the 100-year old Fortymile mining district and is located in eastern Alaska near the Alaska-Yukon border. This map illustrates the distribution of a variety of unconsolidated deposits and undifferentiated bedrock in the Eagle A-1 Quadrangle, Fortymile mining district. It was prepared by the interpretation of 1:63,360-scale, false-color, infrared aerial photographs taken from July 1978 through August 1981 and is locally verified by ground observations during field visits. The results should be considered reconnaissance in nature. The dominant unconsolidated deposit...

Between 1979 and 1982, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) and the Geophysical Institute, University of Alaska Fairbanks, undertook an assessment of the states geothermal resources under a program jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the State of Alaska. During this period, reconnaissance investigations of more than 100 thermal spring sites and fumarole fields located in Alaska were conducted by DGGS.

In preparation for bottom sediment coring at Mother Goose Lake, bathymetric data was collected using a Lowrance Sonar "fishfinder" (model LcX-17M) in August 2006 and August 2007. A 5-meter bathymetric contour map of the lake bottom was constructed using the GPS-sonar data in conjunction with field observations. The contour data and GPS location and depth data are provided in ESRI shapefile format for use in Geographic Information System (GIS) software.

Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys carried out a geologic field survey, including mapping and sampling in the Moran area in the Tanana A-6 and B-6 quadrangles, and the Melozitna A-1, A2, B-1, and B-2 quadrangles, Alaska from June 17 to August 15, 2011. The fieldwork provides basic information critical to building an understanding of Alaska geology and is part of an integrated program of airborne geophysical surveys followed by geologic mapping. During 2011, 212 rock samples were collected for geochemical trace-element analysis, 58 rock samples were collected for whole-rock (major- and minor-oxide and petrogenetically important trace elements tables) analyses,...

This report provides detailed (1:63,360-scale) mapping of the Tanana A-1 and A-2 quadrangles (500 square miles; equivalent to eight 7.5-minute quadrangles). The area is part of the Manley Hot Springs-Tofty mining districts and adjacent to the Rampart mining district to the south of the Tanana B-1 Quadrangle. This report includes detailed geologic construction materials and geologic hazards data. The Tanana A-1 and A-2 Quadrangles and surrounding area comprise several isolated mountainous ridges in the western Yukon-Tanana Upland of interior Alaska.

This geologic map and preliminary cross sections of central and east Anchorage, Alaska, are based on previous mapping, limited new photointerpretation, and available subsurface data. Using PC-based Geographic Information System (GIS) software, the existing geologic map has been updated and simplified by adding recent fill deposits and combining units of similar genesis, composition, and age that are also recognizable in the subsurface. The GIS database consists of a USGS geologic map and over 4,000 geotechnical boreholes and water-well logs provided by numerous public and private sources. Geologic cross sections were developed by using GIS to project graphic lithologic logs into scaled vertical layouts along selected...
