These data have been collected on various vessel operations on the Great Lakes and select connecting waterways. This vessel operations data set is part of and connected to a larger database of Great Lakes research that includes trawl and gillnet catch data, sample information of fish species caught, as well as effort applied, operation conditions, and location details. The larger database also contains data on hydroacoustics, ichthyoplankton, zooplankton, zebra mussel, and benthos samples collected. Multiple operations were conducted on all Great Lakes each year (1958-2016) beginning in early spring and ending in late fall. Each vessel operation was completed for a specific purpose, or target mission, which are...

These data were compiled to better understand sedimentation patterns on the bed of the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park, and the way these patterns relate to suspended sediment grain size and concentration. These data were collected by the US Geological Survey Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center from 2000 to 2014, primarily using the "Flying Eyeball" underwater imaging system. This dataset is composed of over 50,000 samples, as part of 16 individual data tables from 16 research expeditions. On each expedition, grain size measurements were made in a grid-like pattern over short segments of the river. Each point sample includes mean grain size, geographic coordinates, date, and geomorphic setting.

This map service contains summaries of habitat condition indices (HCI scores) from the National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP) 2010 National Assessments for 8 digit Hydrological Unit Codes (HUC8s) of the United States. Initial HCI scores were developed in three separate assessments (Conterminous U.S., Hawaii, and Alaska) due to differences in data availability across these regions. In the initial NFHAP 2010 Alaska assessment HCI values were attributed to HUC12s. For this reason, to summarize data into HUC8s for Alaska an area-weighted average was used (i.e. the cumulative HCI score assigned to each HUC12 within a HUC8 was weighted by reach area using the formula (H1*A1+H2*A2...+HX*AX)/(A1+A2...+AX) where H = HCI...

This metadata references a comma-delimited file describing 492 digitized prints of large-format photographs from 160 viewpoints. The photographic images themselves are referenced in a separate metadata file entitled "Photographs Showing Change in Riparian Vegetation in the Grand Canyon, 1889-2012". The viewpoints were first photographed by Stanton in 1889-1890, and then re-photographed in about 1989-1992 and 2010-2012. This set of photos focuses on change in riparian vegetation and partially overlaps a larger set of Stanton viewpoints re-photographed by Webb and others and available at http://wwwpaztcn.wr.usgs.gov/fscc/stanton-repeat-photography/index.php. The file of descriptive information gives viewpoint stake...

The tabular dataset is a compilation of all historic observations of whooping crane locations up through 1941. Most of the records were obtained from Robert Porter Allen's 1952 report, "The Whooping Crane"; an additional 73 records were added from records found since 1952. Records include source (Allen 1952 [The Whooping Crane, Audubon]or other), location name, county, state or province, country (Canada, US, Mexico), estimated latitude and longitude, year, month, day, life stage (breeding, summering, wintering, migration, unknown), season (spring, summer, fall, winter), observer's name, and logical indicators of nesting, specimen taken, observer identified, or if captive bird. Completeness of each record is variable....

Deformed wing virus (DWV) is a major pathogen of concern to apiculture, and recent reports have indicated the local predominance and potential virulence of recombinants between DWV and a related virus, Varroa destructor virus 1 (VDV). However, little is known about the frequency and titer of VDV and recombinants relative to DWV generally. In this study, I assessed the relative occurrence and titer of DWV and VDV in public RNA-seq accessions of honey bee using a rapid, kmer-based approach. Three recombinant types were detectable graphically and corroborated by de novo assembly. Recombination breakpoints did not disrupt the capsid-encoding region, consistent with previous reports, and both VDV- and DWV-derived capsids...

This shapefile contains summaries of habitat condition indices (HCI scores) from the National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP) 2010 assessment for Ecological Drainage Units (EDUs) in the Conterminous United States. Initial HCI scores were developed using landscape factors representing human disturbances summarized to local and network catchments of river reaches throughout the Conterminous United States. Habitat condition scores were based on responsiveness of biological metrics to anthropogenic landscape disturbances throughout ecoregions. Separate scores were created by considering disturbances within local catchments, network catchments, and a cumulative score that accounted for the most limiting disturbance...

The whooping crane (Grus americana) is a bird species in North America currently protected under federal endangered species legislation in the United States and Canada. The only self-sustaining and wild population of whooping cranes nests in and around Wood Buffalo National Park near the provincial border of Northwest Territories and Alberta, Canada. Cranes from this population migrate through the Great Plains of North America and winter along the Gulf Coast of Texas at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge and surrounding lands. These data support efforts to delineate a migration corridor for this population that can be used for conservation planning activities, including targeting conservation, mitigation, and recovery...

A survey of environmental DNA was performed in Tunison Creek downstream of the USGS Tunison Aquatic Laboratory. The goal of the survey was to characterize the source ecological community at multiple trophic or taxonomic levels by associating DNA fragments with reference databases. Three taxonomically informative genetic loci were used: the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase 1 locus, the mitochondrial 12S ribosomal locus, and the bacterial/organellar 16S ribosomal locus. The data set includes a list of sample and sequence accessions residing in the National Center for Biotechnology Information databases, which provide the raw data for analysis or re-use. The data also includes the representative sequences of operational...
