We obtained statewide spatially explicit gridded soil survey data for Nebraska from the Soil Survey Geographic (SSURGO) database. The ‘chorizon,’ ‘chtexture,’ ‘chtexturegrp,’ ‘mapunit,’ and ‘mutext’ tables in the Gridded SSURGO database were joined together using the “mukey” attribute field in a geographic information system (GIS). The representative values for slope (rvslope) and slope length (rvslopelenusle), the susceptibility of the soil to water erosion (Kw), and the soil loss tolerance (t_fact) values were obtained from the set of joined tables and were included in the Water Erosion Index calculation. We acquired county-specific rainfall and runoff factor values (R) from the U.S. Department ofAgriculture’s...

The Central Platte River Image Library is an extensive dataset of historic 1860's surveys by the Government Land Office and aerial photographs from 1938-2012. All datasets are either public domain property of the U.S. Government or published by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture (RWBJV) with permission from the respective owner (specifically the Platte River Recovery Implementation Program or Central Platte Natural Resources District). The Central Platte River region of Nebraska extends from approximately Jeffery Reservoir (Western Extent) to Columbus (Eastern Extent). The library was completed May 2014 - Sept 2016 by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture.

Systematic conservation planning is well suited to address the many large-scale biodiversity conservation challenges facing the Appalachian region. However, broad, well-connected landscapes will be required to sustain many of the natural resources important to this area into the future. If these landscapes are to be resilient to impending change, it will likely require an orchestrated and collaborative effort reaching across jurisdictional and political boundaries. The first step in realizing this vision is prioritizing discrete places and actions that hold the greatest promise for the protection of biodiversity. Five conservation design elements covering many critical ecological processes and patterns across the...

Spotted Skunk presence data acquired from James L. Fowler IV and limited to points dating from 1980 to the present, with individual points adapted from the available data. Geospatial data acquired from the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Land Cover Database (NLCD) and Digital Elevation Model (DEM), NASA Earth Observation Systems, NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC), and the Naturalness Index from Theobald et al. 2010 and 2012. The study was conducted over the extent of the Appalachian LCC. Environmental variables of consideration were determined through literature review and expert recommendations on the species. Spotted Skunk presence data was sub-sampled to reduce spatial bias. Pseudoabsence...

This dataset represents the vector output from the Riparian Prioritization for Climate Change Resilience (RPCCR) tool with riparian corridors identified which met user-based parameters regarding percent canopy cover, solar gain percentile, impervious surface, and elevation that are also within 200 meters of a stream with natural trout reproduction as identified by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission in coldwater streams. This dataset is used as part of a case study exercise (Module 4) of the RPCCR training course available at: http://www.scienceapplications.org/.

The Rainwater Basin Joint Venture (RWBJV) used wetland complex models for analysis in their conservation actions. A Historic Wetland Mask (HWM) was used as analysis features for the playa wetlands. The HWM is a GIS layer created by merging all of the playa wetland features identified from four sources: historic soil surveys , National Wetland Inventory, Soil Survey Geographic Database and a 2005 Ducks Unlimited satellite inventory. Using the HWM allows the model to analyze all potential historic wetlands and evaluate their restoration potential as waterfowl habitat. A combination of raster and vector-based spatial analysis was performed on the historic wetland footprints. Factors included in the mask were size,...

These are vector (polygon) inventories of woodland features that were part of a Rainwater Basin land cover mapping effort. These features were digitized using 2010 USDA National Agricultural Imagery Program (NAIP). These features created in 2011-2012 and were incorporated in to RWBJV Nebraska land covers starting in version 10.
