This data release contains elemental concentration data from the reanalysis of 13,930 archived stream-sediment sample and associated stream sediment reference material and 968 archived rock samples and associated rock reference material. All archived material was from samples that were collected in Alaska. Samples were retrieved from the USGS Mineral Program's sample archive in Denver, CO. Sample processing consisted of splitting the appropriate aliquot for the requested analyses. Sample splitting was performed in the USGS Mineral Program's sample prep facilities. 13,800 samples were analyzed using a multi-element analytical method involving decomposition of the sample by sodium peroxide and elemental analysis by...

The Alaska Resource Data File (ARDF) is a database of mines, prospects, and mineral occurrences in Alaska. It contains information compiled from published and unpublished sources from industry, U.S. Bureau of Mines (BOM), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and other government and private sources. ARDF is not a mining claims database. ARDF is mainly focused on metallic commodities. Common industrial minerals or commodities, such as sand, gravel and crushed stone, and limestone are not included in ARDF, nor are energy minerals such as peat, coal, and oil and gas. However, uranium, thorium, and rare earth elements, as well as some high unit value industrial minerals, such as barite, jade, graphite, and gypsum, are included....

This dataset represents a digitized version of the Rawlinson 1993 surficial geologic map of the Flaxman Island and Beechy Point quadrangles, and portions of the Mount Michelson and Harrison Bay quadrangles at 1:63,360 scale. In this newly digitized version of the map, the original maps were scanned, georeferenced, and projected into GIS. Approximately 100-200 typographic and labelling errors from the paper version were corrected with inputs from the original author (corrections completed in 2024). However, this digitized product still adheres to the 1993 interpretation of the surficial geology. Original descriptions of the map units can be found with the 1993 publication (https://doi.org/10.14509/2484). The original...

This data release contains two vector polygon shapefile datasets that delineate footprints of land surface disturbance and waste that may represent potential above-ground resources resulting from past mining in Alaska. These footprints were mapped on 2023 World Imagery at the location of currently inactive Alaska Resource Data File sites of past mining production.

Kuskokwim airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, Sischu Mountains, Geophysical Report 2024-1, covers parts of the Ruby, Kantishna River, Mt. McKinley, Medfra, and Ophir quadrangles north of McGrath, Alaska. Magnetic and radiometric data were collected with a helicopter between July 14, 2023, and October 15, 2023, by Geotech Ltd. The survey contains a single block covering 8,008 km2. A total of 25,878 line-kilometers were collected. The magnetometer was installed inside the stinger attached to the helicopter nose. The airborne gamma-ray spectrometer was mounted on the interior floor of the helicopter cabin. The block was flown with a line spacing of 400 m. The mean ground clearance is 192 m with a nominal survey...

This dataset provides four digital elevation models derived from airborne lidar data acquired over four separate areas along and adjacent to the Fairweather Fault along the remote Gulf of Alaska coast within Glacier Bay National Park. In 1958, the Fairweather Fault in southeast Alaska ruptured over 260 km between Yakutat Bay and Cross Sound, producing the magnitude 7.8 Lituya Bay earthquake. To better understand the extent of surface rupture and identify sites to investigate for evidence of past earthquakes, the USGS Alaska Science Center collaborated with the National Park Service, the Army Corps of Engineers' Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL), and the National Center for Airborne Lidar Mapping...

This dataset provides information needed to reproduce a digital model of the Nogahabara Dune Field located in interior Alaska. The Nogahabara Dunes represent one of three active inland dune fields found in Alaska today. In an effort to update geospatial coverage of the dunes lidar data was collected over Nogahabara Sand Dunes in September 2015 using a 1955 Cessna 180 aircraft equipped with a Riegl brand LMS-Q240i laser scanner. The scanner was set to 10,000 laser shots per second and a +/- 30 degree beam sweep and flown over the Koyukuk National Wildlife Refuge's Nogahabara sand dunes. The flight pattern was designed for 50 percent overlap between each adjacent swath to achieve 2 points per square meter over the...

Between May 5th and June 28th, 2017, a total of 50,329 line kilometers were collected covering 13,646.9 square kilometers. Data were collected at a line spacing of 300 meters (m) with a mean ground clearance of 235 m. The data, as well as additional metadata, are available from the DGGS website: https://doi.org/10.14509/29737....
