The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the City of South Padre Island, Texas, deployed an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) to collect current velocity, wave height, and directional data in the lower Laguna Madre adjacent to South Padre Island, Texas. From July 19, 2022, through January 9, 2023, these data were collected at a site near South Padre Island (USGS station number 260551097100901) by using an up-looking acoustic doppler current profiler (ADCP) mounted on the bottom of the lower Laguna Madre. Raw data were collected at a frequency of 2 hertz (Hz); reported values were computed as the average of the processed data values for 60-minute intervals. All times are represented in Coordinated...

Field measurements of water depth were acquired from a reach of the upper Sacramento River in northern California, September 12-14, 2017, to support research on salmon habitat and geomorphic change along the Sacramento River and, more broadly, remote sensing of rivers. The depth measurements included in this data release were obtained by wading the shallow channel margins with RTK GPS receivers and measuring water surface elevations along the water's edge and bed elevations within the channel; depths were calculated by subtracting bed elevations from the nearest water surface elevation. For the deeper areas representing most of the channel, depths were recorded along a series of cross-sections by a SonTek RiverSurveyor...

Velocity and water-quality surveys were completed along an approximately 71-mile reach of the Ohio River between Markland Locks and Dam (river mile 531.5) and McAlpine Locks and Dam (river mile 606.8) on October 27–November 4, 2016 (survey #1), and June 26–29, 2017 (survey #2). Water-quality data collected in this reach included surface measurements and vertical profiles of water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin. Streamflow and velocity data were collected simultaneous to the water-quality data at cross-sections and along longitudinal lines (corresponding to the water-quality surface measurements) and at selected stationary locations (corresponding...

These data are bathymetry (river bottom elevation) in XYZ format (Easting, Northing, Elevation), generated from the July 24–25, 2023, and July 31, 2023, bathymetric survey of the Green River near Brownsville, Kentucky, from approximately 1.5 miles downstream from the Brownsville boat ramp to approximately 0.8 mile upstream from the former Green River Lock and Dam #6 site (3.8 miles total reach length). Hydrographic data were collected using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) with an integrated global navigation satellite system (GNSS) smart antenna. The ADCP and GNSS antenna were mounted on a marine survey vessel, and data were collected as the survey vessel traversed the river along planned survey lines....

Field measurements of water depth were acquired from a reach of the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park, WY, August 19-24, 2015, to support research on channel change along the Snake River and, more broadly, remote sensing of rivers. The depth measurements included in this data release were obtained by wading the shallow channel margins and measuring the water depth directly on a top-setting wading rod used to collect flow velocity data with an acoustic Doppler velocimeter (ADV). For the deeper areas representing most of the channel, depths were recorded along a series of cross-sections by a SonTek RiverSurveyor M9 acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) deployed from a kayak with the vertical beam of the...

Field measurements of flow depth and velocity and river discharge were collected from two cross-sections on the Blue River in Colorado using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP). These data were used to assess the accuracy of surface flow velocities inferred from thermal image time series, acquired from an unmanned aircraft system (UAS), via particle image velocimetry (PIV). These data sets were collected to support research focused on developing innovative methods for non-contact measurement of river discharge based on various forms of remotely sensed data. The ADCP data were collected with a SonTek RiverSurveyor S5 mounted on a hydroboard towed behind an inflatable kayak. Four passes were made across...

To suport an investigation of the feasibility of measuring river discharge using remotely sensed data acquired from an unmanned aircraft system (UAS), several types of remotely sensed data and field measurements were collected from two cross-sections on the Blue River in Colorado, just upstream of its confluence with the upper Colorado River, on October 18, 2018. This parent data release includes links to child pages for the following data sets: 1) Lidar data used for mapping channel bathymetry (depth), acquired with a novel instrument that was developed by ASTRALiTe to distinguish between returns from the water surface and riverbed based on the polarization of laser pulses. 2) Thermal image time series used to...

Discharge measurements made at U.S. Geological Survey Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal near Lemont, Illinois, streamgage (05536890) between 2005 and 2013 were reviewed and manually processed using QRev v3.12. Discharge was measured using Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs) deployed from a moving boat according to the procedures described in Mueller and others (2013). QRev generates an extensible markup language file (XML) that provides information on measurement characteristics (Mueller, 2016a,b). Data from these XML files were exported into a comma-separated values (CSV) table to create a summary of measurement information. This CSV table also indicates which measurements were used in the development of index-velocity...

Acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) discharge measurement data were collected and analyzed for use in developing an operational uncertainty analysis tool known as QUant (Moore and others, 2016). These ADCP measurements were originally collected in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand as a part of research conducted to validate ADCP discharge measurements made with Teledyne RD Instruments RiverRay and SonTek M9 ADCPs (Boldt and Oberg, 2015). The data were chosen in order to represent a variety of geographic and streamflow conditions, such as mean depth and mean velocity. Due to current limitations in the QUant software, only measurements collected using Teledyne RD Instruments Rio Grande and StreamPro...
