This dataset presents the spatial results of an aquatic integrity assessment conducted by the Conservation Biology Institute (CBI) in the Rogue River, southern Oregon coastal streams, Klamath River, and upper Sacramento River basins. This assessment integrated measures of road density, road-stream crossings, percentage forest change within watersheds, and mining activity. This particular dataset integrated two separate analyses: one for the Rogue River and southern Oregon coastal streams area, and another for the Klamath and upper Sacramento River area. A warming climate could profoundly affect the distribution and abundance of many fishes. Bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus) may be especially vulnerable to climate change given that spawning and early rearing are constrained by cold water temperatures creating a patchwork of natal headwater habitats across river networks. Because the size and connectivity of patches also appear to influence the persistence of local populations, climate warming could lead to increasing fragmentation of remaining habitats and accelerated decline of this species. Project Synopsis: the strategy for restoring the habitat on Currant Creek is to permanently exclude unauthorized livestock from the stream and adjacent meadows unless livestock are authorized in the special use pasture. Livestock are only to be permitted to graze every 3rd year for 3 weeks or as approved by authorized officer. (It's been about ten years since grazing has been authorized in the area due to resource concerns.) The most imminent threat to the currant creek habitat is continual cattle drift into the drainage. This dataset was created as a way to have standard fish distribution datasets across the various fish species for the study area. This was needed because the original source datasets for fish distributions came from several different sources and were at various scales and also overlapped. To fix the issues in the source datasets we walked the original data over to the NHD Plus hydrography. A strong data foundation is needed to inform science-based decisions for fisheries management at a watershed level. In preparation for a shift towards comprehensive watershed-scale planning, Arizona Game and Fish Department (AGFD) is developing a fisheries data management system with an initial focus on compiling and formatting several hundred thousand fish survey and stocking records. Abstract: Topock Marsh is a large wetland adjacent to the Colorado River and the main feature of Havasu National Wildlife Refuge (Havasu NWR) in southern Arizona. In 2010, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) and Bureau of Reclamation began a project to improve water management capabilities at Topock Marsh and protect habitats and species. Initial construction required a drawdown, which caused below-average inflows and water depths in 2010–11. U.S. Geological Survey Fort Collins Science Center (FORT) scientists collected an assemblage of biotic, abiotic, and hydrologic data from Topock Marsh during the drawdown and immediately after, thus obtaining valuable information needed by FWS. Compilation of seagrass (submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) ) from digital benthic habitat data created by National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS), Coastal Services Center (CSC) from existing digital multi-spectral imagery (ADS-40). NOAA worked cooperatively with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Texas A&M University Center for Coastal Studies to develop benthic habitat data for several Texas coastal bays. Convert impenetrable sheep fence to more "wildlife friendly" fence to allow passage of pronghorn and other big game species. Provide a number of low-tech erosion and water harvesting measures to improve two-track roads. Construct small rock mulches to improve water infiltration while reducing runoff and soil erosion. This project will improve fish movements in the Upper Big Sandy River by fish screen and fish passable irrigation diversion replacement.
Construct wildlife passable fence to enhance approximately 3,100 feet of riparian habitat and 5,900 feet of stream channel. Three year rest minimum with the development of a long term wildlife and livestock management plan.
This project will take place on Rock Creek which is a tributary to Bear River. This project involves the replacement of four irrigation diversions with fish passable weir structures to benefit native fish species.
