These data were compiled for a study that investigated the effects of drought seasonality and plant community composition in a dryland ecosystem. In 2015 U.S. Geological Survey ecologists recorded vegetation and soil moisture data in 36 experimental plots which manipulated precipitation in two plant community types. The experiment consisted of three precipitation treatments: control (ambient precipitation), cool-season drought (-66% ambient precipitation November-April), and warm-season drought (-66% ambient precipitation May-October), applied in two plant communities (perennial grasses with or without a large shrub, Ephedra viridis) over a three-year period. These data were collected from 2015 to 2022 near Canyonlands...

This dataset is a single comma-delimited text file (.csv). Data include the name of lakes where sampling occurred, approximate geographic coordinates of each lake, historical dynamics of the lake, and indication of measurements taken at the lake.
This dataset is a single comma-delimited text file (.csv). Data include the name of lakes where samples were obtained, the historical dynamics of that lake, the sampled community type, and the dry mass of annual new growth. Shrub community measurements are a combination of understory mass from quadrat harvests and shrub stem mass derived from published allometric equations.
Access database with terrestrial invertebrate abundance and biomass data in addition to weather data. Arctic Shorebird Demographic Network Camp locations: Nome, Cape Krusenstern, Barrow, Ikpikpuk, Colville, Prudhoe Bay, Canning River, Mackenzie Delta, and East Bay. Latitude and Longitude for each camp are provided in a table in the database.

These data are the primary data used to model rainbow trout growth in Glen Canyon. Fish growth data were collected from nighttime boat electrofishing field campaigns conducted five to six times per year in April, July, September, and January, from April 2012 through November 2021 for a total of 9798 observations of mark-recapture-based growth. Sampling was conducted in a five km reach in the lower portion of the Glen Canyon tailwater (3.7-8.9 km upstream of Lees Ferry, AZ). Two nights of sampling occurred on each trip, with the central 2-3 km of the reach sampled on both nights. After capture, fish were kept in aerated 40-L buckets and transported to a central processing location. Groups of 10-15 fish were anesthetized...
Yes, all data values are reasonable and within the valid range for measurement. The data release consists of 15 tabular data files (csv). These data were compiled to compare patterns and potential drivers of leaf litter decomposition in the Colorado River downstream of Glen Canyon Dam between 1998 and 2022. Objective(s) of our study were to compare the breakdown of cottonwood (Populus fremontii), willow (Salix exigua), and salt cedar (Tamarix chinensis) leaves to a previous decomposition experiment from 1998 (Pomeroy et al. 2000) that was conducted in the context of much cooler water temperatures, higher phosphorus concentrations, lower New Zealand mudsnail densities, and salt cedar litter that was unaffected by...

Mangrove inventory data from J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, Sanibel Island, Florida, USA collected in 2016 and 2017. Plot data includes X and Y downed dead wood count, mangrove species information and site descriptions. Tree data includes the three species found on the refuge: Avicennia germinans (Black mangroves), Laguncularia racemosa (White mangroves) and Rhizophora mangle (Red mangroves). They were inventoried for diameter at breast height (DBH), height, and dead status.
These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. Fanno Creek is a tributary to the Tualatin River and flows though parts of the southwest Portland metropolitan area. The stream is heavily influenced by urban runoff and shows characteristic flashy streamflow and poor water quality commonly associated with urban streams. This data set represents the geomorphic floodplain as derived from light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data and aerial photographic imagery. The floodplain represents...
This data release provides seven datasets of soil and vegetation data from lake margin soils from throughout the Yukon Flats National Wildlife Refuge. Data includes multiple lakes that are defined as either stable or drying. Lake margin vegetation communities include graminoid, shrub, and forest. Sols are separated into organic and mineral layers. Microbial data includes different phospholipid fatty acids and soil enzyme activity data for multiple enzymes involved in C,N, and P cycling. Data also includes information on respiration rate constants (k) and labile substrate pool (Ao) from soil incubations. Other soil chemical attributes such as soil pH, electrical conductivity, percent C and percent N are also included.
This dataset measures the total amount of above-ground live biomass in forested systems, which is an important attribute of forested communites and an indicator of successional development, and an important habitat attribute for many forest-associated wildlife species. The dataset is derived from a combination of remote sensing products derived from multi-temporal Landsat TM data and Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) plot data and forest succession models derived from FIA plot data. It is expected this dataset will be useful for distinguishing early successional from mature forests as they existed in approximately 2012. Units are in kilograms/meters squared times 10. To create this dataset, the Woods Hole North...

Abstract (from http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378112714003028): Plant functional traits (PFTs) have increased in popularity in recent years to describe various ecosystems and biological phenomena while advancing general ecological principles. To date, few have investigated distributional attributes of individual PFTs and their relationship with key attributes and processes of forest ecosystems. The objective of this study was to quantify the distribution and contribution of various PFTs in determining forest structure, live tree production (volume and biomass), and tree mortality across the eastern US. In total, 16 metrics representing species specific gravity and their shade, flood, and drought...
