This report presents the results of a harvest survey and ethnographic research project that investigated the subsistence uses of large land mammals and furbearers in Game Management Unit 25 in the Yukon Flats region of Interior Alaska. Large land mammal species harvested and used by Yukon Flats residents include moose Alces alces, caribou Rangifer tarandus, black bear Ursus americanus, and brown bear Ursus arctos. Furbearing species included in this study are marten Martes americana, lynx Lynx canadensis, and wolf Canis lupus. For the 2008–2009 study year a total of 284 of 467 households (approximately 61%) were surveyed in the 7 Yukon Flats communities of Beaver, Birch Creek, Chalkyitsik, Circle, Fort Yukon, Stevens...

On August 25, 2020, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a bathymetry survey of a 550 meter long reach of the Black River near Great Bend, New York. The study reach began approximately 1,000 meters upstream from the State Route 26 bridge in Great Bend, New York. Depth data were collected primarily with a 1,200 kilohertz Teledyne RD Instruments RioPro acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) with position data from differential global navigation satellite system (GNSS) Hemisphere V102 DGPS antenna (any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government). Water surface elevations were established using real-time kinematic (RTK) GNSS surveys;...

Problem - There is a stated need to provide information on loading of persistent toxic pollutants to Lake Ontario from New York tributaries. The information is specifically required for the Lake Ontario Mass Balance Model, which is an integral part of the long-term Great Lakes research. The project described here is designed to demonstrate a cost-effective approach for estimation of loads of polychlorinated-biphenyls (PCBs) through use of a relatively small number of large-volume whole-water samples for PCB analysis. The Black River basin was selected to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach because it is the largest New York contributor of PCBs to Lake Ontario. Objectives - The objective of this project...

This data release consists of two .csv files of inverted models of electrical resistivity created from the processed resistivity data in the accompanying two data releases: (Miller and Others, 2018) and (2018 Raw and Processed, in progress). During 2016, 17, and 18, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted continuous resistivity profiling along 15 rivers or lakes in the Mississippi Alluvial Plain of Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Missouri to characterize streambed hydraulic conductivity values. These techniques characterize the near surface geomorphology of the streambed that controls the recharge to the alluvial aquifer. These data can be used to map changes in the lithology of the streambed and identify areas...

This data release has three components for each of the eight surveys that were conducted in 2018: 1) a geospatial dataset of the processed data; 2) tabular data of the processed waterborne resistivity profiling data and associated water-quality data; 3) tabular data of the raw waterborne resistivity data and associated water-quality data. In addition to the newly collected data from 2018, the waterborne resistivity data from 2016 (Miller and others, 2016) is included and has been re-processed to be consistent with the processing steps currently utilized and described herein. In fresh water aquifers, the geoelectric resistivity of earth materials commonly has a positive correlation with hydraulic conductivity (Faye...

This content represents a map displaying the vector data corresponding to the processed datasets for the waterborne resistivity profiling surveys of streams in the Mississippi Alluvial Plain. The .sd file is an ESRI service definition file containing all the data (capatible for use in ESRI ArcDesktop). This file bundle contains 8 shapefiles, each representing an individual stream. These are all displayed in the map service definition. Users can also download the .sd file and extract the content (using 7zip, winzip, etc.) on their local machine to obtain all the stand-alone shapefiles.

This project provides a regional assessment of sugar maple health and associated soil conditions in the Adirondack Region of New York, where sugar maple are a major component of the forest. The focus of the study is to develop an improved understanding of relationships among watershed characteristics, soil chemistry, and acidic deposition effects on sugar maple trees and other tree species that grow in association with sugar maple, which are one of the most highly valued tree species in the northeast. Project results are therefore important for the management of sugar maple in the Adirondack region where acidic deposition has lowered the nutritional status of soils by depleting calcium, a key nutrient for trees.Purpose...

This data release has three components for each of the eight stream lengths: 1) a geospatial dataset of the processed data; 2) tabular data of the processed waterborne resistivity profiling data and associated water-quality data; 3) tabular data of the raw waterborne resistivity data and associated water-quality data. In fresh water aquifers, the geoelectric resistivity of earth materials commonly has a positive correlation with hydraulic conductivity (Faye and Smith, 1994). Throughout 2017, continuous resistivity profiling data were collected, as a proxy for streambed hydraulic conductivity, along reaches of eight streams in the Mississippi Alluvial Plain of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Missouri. A total of...
