This part of the data release contains historical streamflow data compiled from the literature and evaporation loss estimates used in the streamflow gain loss equation. These digital data accompany Houston, N.A., Thomas, J.V., Ging, P.B., Teeple, A.P., Pedraza, D.E., and Wallace, D.S., 2019, Pecos River Basin Salinity Assessment, Santa Rosa Lake, New Mexico to the Confluence of the Pecos River and the Rio Grande, Texas,2015: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2019-5071, https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20195071.

This Data Release contains various types of hydrologic and geologic data from the Pecos River Basin during1900–2015, including water-quality data compiled and synthesized from various sources (including data from water-quality samples collected by the USGS in 2015 from 26 sites), streamflow gain-loss data collected by the USGS in 2015 and historical streamflow gain-loss data compiled from the literature, the horizontal extent of and depth to the base of the 16 geologic and hydrogeologic units that underlie the study area, and geospatial data collected by the USGS. The data were used to complete a detailed salinity assessment of the Pecos River from Santa Rosa Lake, New Mexico to the Confluence of the Pecos River...

This report presents the results of a harvest survey and ethnographic research project that investigated the subsistence uses of large land mammals and furbearers in Game Management Unit 25 in the Yukon Flats region of Interior Alaska. Large land mammal species harvested and used by Yukon Flats residents include moose Alces alces, caribou Rangifer tarandus, black bear Ursus americanus, and brown bear Ursus arctos. Furbearing species included in this study are marten Martes americana, lynx Lynx canadensis, and wolf Canis lupus. For the 2008–2009 study year a total of 284 of 467 households (approximately 61%) were surveyed in the 7 Yukon Flats communities of Beaver, Birch Creek, Chalkyitsik, Circle, Fort Yukon, Stevens...

This part of the Data Release contains the water-quality data compiled and synthesized from various sources(including data from water-quality samples collected by the USGS in 2015 from 26 sites). This collection includes three main tables that contain (1) the list of site locations that water-quality data were collected, and information about those sites, such as the spatial coordinates of a well (Site_information); (2)the list of samples that were collected, and information about those samples, such as the date the sample was collected (Sample_information); and (3) the results of the measured constituent, and information about the result such as amount of concentration measured in a constituent(Water_quality_results)....

On August 25, 2020, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a bathymetry survey of a 550 meter long reach of the Black River near Great Bend, New York. The study reach began approximately 1,000 meters upstream from the State Route 26 bridge in Great Bend, New York. Depth data were collected primarily with a 1,200 kilohertz Teledyne RD Instruments RioPro acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) with position data from differential global navigation satellite system (GNSS) Hemisphere V102 DGPS antenna (any use of trade, firm, or product names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government). Water surface elevations were established using real-time kinematic (RTK) GNSS surveys;...

Problem - There is a stated need to provide information on loading of persistent toxic pollutants to Lake Ontario from New York tributaries. The information is specifically required for the Lake Ontario Mass Balance Model, which is an integral part of the long-term Great Lakes research. The project described here is designed to demonstrate a cost-effective approach for estimation of loads of polychlorinated-biphenyls (PCBs) through use of a relatively small number of large-volume whole-water samples for PCB analysis. The Black River basin was selected to demonstrate the feasibility of the approach because it is the largest New York contributor of PCBs to Lake Ontario. Objectives - The objective of this project...

This part of the data release contains geospatial data collected and compiled during the Pecos River Basin salinity assessment of the Pecos River Basin from Santa Rosa Lake in New Mexico to the confluence of the Pecos River and the Rio Grande in Texas. Raster representations of horizontal extent, and depth below land surface to the base of sixteen Quaternary through Permian aged geologic units that underlie the Pecos River Basin are provided in image format. These units include: the San Andres Limestone; the Artesia Group which includes the Grayburg, Queen, Seven Rivers, Yates, and Tansill Formations; Capitan Limestone; Castile, Salado, and Rustler Formations; the Dewey Lake Redbeds; the Dockum Group (divided into...

Scouring of streambed material surrounding bridge structures is a leading cause of bridge failure in the United States. Damages resulting from bridge failure oftentimes lead to financial burdens and loss of life. To date, there has been no comprehensive evaluation of the current (2016) effectiveness of the guidance or overall long-term performance of bridge-scour countermeasures provided in the Federal Highway Administration, Hydraulic Engineering Circular No. 23, Bridge Scour and Stream Instability Countermeasures. To that end, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, obtained bathymetric, topographical, and other data at 20 of the surveyed sites across the United States...

This project provides a regional assessment of sugar maple health and associated soil conditions in the Adirondack Region of New York, where sugar maple are a major component of the forest. The focus of the study is to develop an improved understanding of relationships among watershed characteristics, soil chemistry, and acidic deposition effects on sugar maple trees and other tree species that grow in association with sugar maple, which are one of the most highly valued tree species in the northeast. Project results are therefore important for the management of sugar maple in the Adirondack region where acidic deposition has lowered the nutritional status of soils by depleting calcium, a key nutrient for trees.Purpose...

This part of the data release contains the geospatial data collected by the USGS during the Pecos River salinity assessment. The data includes a feature class of the study area boundary and the Pecos River Basin boundary, the picks that were used to develop the depth to the base of the 16 geologic units, a feature class of springs, seeps and sinkholes compiled in the study area, a feature class of the USGS streamflow-gaging stations locations in the study area, a feature class of the locations of the saltwater disposal wells in the study area, and a feature class of areas of interest with respect to salinity. These digital data accompany Houston, N.A., Thomas, J.V., Ging, P.B., Teeple, A.P., Pedraza, D.E., and...
