This dataset contains annual irrigated acreage for New Mexico and Texas from 1938 through 2010 for six canal service units used in the Lower Rio Grande Basin groundwater flow model (SSPA, 2007). Irrigated acreage values were extracted from the New Mexico Office of the State Engineer’s (NMOSE’s) Canal spreadsheet, version 11.2 (Barroll, P., NMOSE, written commun., 2011).

This line vector dataset represents the Rio Grande, engineered surface-water conveyance structures (canals, laterals, drains, and wasteways), diversions to water-balance subregions (WBS), and the Las Cruces Arroyo segments simulated with the Streamflow-Routing (SFR) Package for MODFLOW-One-Water Hydrologic Flow Model in the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM).
Consumptive use (CU) of water is an important factor for determining water availability and groundwater storage. Many regional stakeholders and water-supply managers in the Upper Rio Grande Basin have indicated CU is of primary concern in their water-management strategies, yet CU data is sparse for this area. This polygon feature class, which represents irrigated acres for 2015, is a geospatial component of the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Census Upper Rio Grande Basin (URGB) focus area study's effort to improve quantification of CU in parts of New Mexico, west Texas, and northern Chihuahua. These digital data accompany Ivahnenko, T.I., Flickinger, A.K., Galanter, A.E., Douglas-Mankin, K.R., Pedraza, D.E.,...

Alluvial basin boundaries in the Upper Rio Grande Basin (URGB) were a needed dataset for the groundwater component of the URGB Focus Area Study (FAS). A literature and data search revealed not all of the alluvial fill basins existed in a digital format that could be imported and used in a Geographic Information System (GIS). Available resources such as georeferenced report figures, digital elevation models (DEMs), principal aquifer dataset, surficial geology, and structural features, such as faults, were used to aid in defining the alluvial basin boundaries. An Esri ArcGIS geodatabase was created to house the final digitized dataset of the following alluvial basins: San Luis, Espanola, Socorro, La Jencia, San Marcial,...

The main source of surface water for irrigation in the study area is the Rio Grande River. The upstream reservoirs, Elephant Butte and Caballo, are used to regulate river flow into the study area. In order to estimate the future surface water availability, we developed a model and routed the reservoir inflow projections at the USGS San Marcial through the reservoir system. The data are available in csv worksheet as open source for free public use.

This dataset contains monthly pumping rates for municipal and industrial (MnI) wells in the City of Las Cruces, New Mexico network within the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM). In RGTIHM, these wells are considered the Las Cruces, New Mexico (LCNM) group. Monthly pumping rates are presented in units of cubic feet per day for the period from March 1940 through December 2014.

This point vector dataset represents the location and identification attributes of stream gages used for surface-water flow and flow-difference observations for the Rio Grande transboundary integrated hydrologic model and water-availability analysis, New Mexico and Texas, United States, and Northern Chihuahua, Mexico.
This tabular dataset represents the source of monthly flow at 18 surface-water inflow points used as input into the Streamflow-Routing (SFR) Package for MODFLOW-One-Water Hydrologic Flow Model in the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM). Fourteen of the inflow points represent wastewater treatment plant (WWTP)/water reclamation plant outfalls, two of the inflow points represent electric plant outfalls, and the remaining two inflow points represent gaged Rio Grande below Caballo Reservoir and Bonita Lateral flows near the beginning of the SFR network within the RGTIHM. See the Inflow_ID attribute in the RGTIHM_SFR_Inflow_Pts and Inflw_ID attribute in the RGTIHM_SFR_Segments feature classes...

This part of the data release contains the water-level measurement data compiled and synthesized from various sources. This collection includes two tables that contain all the water-level measurements that were considered to develop the water-level altitude maps (Input_VisGWDB), and a table of median water-level data that were used to develop the water-level altitude maps (MedianWaterLevelData). These digital data accompany Houston, N.A., Thomas, J.V., Foster, L.K., Pedraza, D.E., and Welborn, T.L., 2020, Hydrogeologic framework, groundwater-level Altitudes, groundwater-level changes, and groundwater-storage changes in selected alluvial basins of the upper Rio Grande Focus Area Study, Colorado, New Mexico, and...

This tabular dataset represents the source of monthly flow at 61 surface-water points of diversion used to route flow in the Streamflow-Routing (SFR) Package for MODFLOW-One-Water Hydrologic Flow Model in the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM). Thirty-one of the 61 diversion points represent surface-water deliveries to combined groundwater and surface-water water balance subregions (WBS), and the remaining 30 diversion points represent diversions to canals and laterals along the surface-water conveyance network. See the Div_ID attribute in the RGTIHM_SFR_Diversion_Pts and RGTIHM_SFR_Segments feature classes for the location of the points of diversion and the downstream segment to which...

This point vector dataset represents 1,874 municipal and industrial well locations and attributes used as input data for the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM). Attributes include well construction information, historic water use information, and flags indicating assumptions made for modeling purposes. Data were compiled from various sources; see Supplemental Information for details.
This digital dataset represents the three-dimensional hydrogeologic framework for the Rio Grande Transboundary region of New Mexico, Texas, USA, and Northern Chihuahua, Mexico. The data define the elevation, thickness, extent, and character of the principal hydrostratigraphic units of the region, and faults and igneous intrusive dikes that cut these units. The digital data describe the following five hydrostratigraphic units: RC, river channel alluvium; three informal subdivisions of the Santa Fe Group (USF, Upper Santa Fe Group; MSF, Middle Santa Fe Group; LSF, Lower Santa Fe Group); and BSMT, which includes all pre-Santa Fe Group rocks (basement). All units except BSMT (RC, USF, MSF, LSF) are split into two subunits....
This dataset contains monthly pumping rates for municipal and industrial (MnI) wells in Texas within the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM) that were not included in other pumping rate datasets. In RGTIHM, these wells are considered the Texas Water Development Board (TXWDB) group. Monthly pumping rates are presented in units of cubic feet per day for the period from March 1940 through December 2014.
