Some of the YKL rasters intentionally do not align or have the same extent. These rasters were not snapped to a common raster per the authors' discretion. Please review selected rasters prior to use. These varying alignments are a result of the use of differing source data sets and all products derived from them. We recommend that users snap or align rasters as best suits their own projects. - This file includes a downscaled projection of decadal average of March Snow Day Fraction (in percent) for the decade 2010-2019 at 771x771 meter spatial resolution. The file represents a decadal mean calculated from monthly (March) averages, using the A2 emissions scenario. Snow Day Fraction is the percentage of days in a month...

Climate change has been shown to influence lake temperatures globally. To better understand the diversity of lake responses to climate change and give managers tools to manage individual lakes, we modelled daily water temperature profiles for 10,774 lakes in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin for contemporary (1979-2015) and future (2020-2040 and 2080-2100) time periods with climate models based on the Representative Concentration Pathway 8.5, the worst-case emission scenario. From simulated temperatures, we derived commonly used, ecologically relevant annual metrics of thermal conditions for each lake. We included all available supporting metadata including satellite and in-situ observations of water clarity, maximum...
This Data Release provides hourly records of air and water temperature within 5 watersheds (Beaver Creek, Dry River, Mossy Creek, Passage Creek & Spout Run) in the Shenandoah Valley, VA in the summer of 2017. Data loggers were deployed and retrieved by Trout Unlimited personnel and volunteers.
The present study investigates the environmental significance of the oxygen isotopic composition of several modern land snail species collected along two north-to-south transects in Alaska and Scandinavia at latitudes between 60 and 70 °N. We tested the hypothesis that land snail shell δ18O values primarily track precipitation δ18O. The results show that shell δ18O values from Scandinavia were ~5.1‰ enriched in 18O with respect to snails from Alaska, equivalent to differences in precipitation δ18O values between the two regions. Within the Alaskan transect, shell δ18O values increased with observed increasing air temperature and precipitation δ18O, whereas shell δ18O values from Scandinavia did not correlate to...

This data release contains the complete set of modeling input and output files for a Heat Source water temperature model and fish bioenergetics model on the lower Quinault River in Washington state. A detailed description of the modeling process, results, and interpretation can be found in the associated primary publication.
This dataset consists of methane flux data collected with eddy covariance methods; and methane ebullition data collected with gas traps, time-lapse cameras, and capacitance probe measurements. Inferred bubble production and soil volumetric gas content data from capacitance probe measurements also are included. These data were collected from July to November 2016 at two forested wetlands in Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida. Gas trap, time-lapse camera, and capacitance probe data were collected at platforms located within the source area of each eddy covariance tower in forested wetlands. Each platform consisted of an array of gas traps, one time-lapse camera, and one capacitance probe. The location (geographic...

Studies of marine terraces and their fossils can yield important information about sea level history, tectonic uplift rates, and paleozoogeography. The marine terrace record on Santa Rosa Island, California is complex. Two prominent low-elevation terraces appear to record the ~80 ka (MIS 5a) and ~120 ka (MIS 5e) high-sea stands, based on U-series dating of fossil corals, but interpretations are tentative because of clear indications of open-system behavior with respect to U-series nuclides. Nevertheless, low uplift rates are implied by a preferred interpretation of the ages. It is inferred that low late Pleistocene uplift rates, combined with glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) processes likely resulted in reoccupation...

Snow persistence (SP) or the snow cover index (SCI), is the fraction of time that snow is present on the ground for a defined period. Cloud covered index (CCI) is the fraction of time that there is no data, cloud, or sensor saturation for the same period. SP and CCI were calculated on a pixel by pixel basis using MODIS/Terra Snow Cover 8-Day L3 Global 500m Grid, Collection 6 obtained from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). January 1 – July 3 SP was calculated for each year as the fraction of 8-day MODIS images with snow present. The selected period brackets the temporal extent of peak snow accumulation to complete snow ablation in most parts of the western United States. The July 3 date is used because...
These data were compiled to represent the distribution of environmental conditions with recognized importance to perennial grasses in dryland areas of the western U.S. Objective(s) of our study were to … evaluate how those environmental drivers are related to perennial grass distributions and use the results to assess how perennial grass distributions may shift in response to future climate change. These data represent ecological niche models for 11 perennial grass species that are important components of grasslands on the Colorado Plateau. Data are provided as rasters (tif format) with each containing data about future change in climatic suitability for a give species, future time period, representative concentration...

Global alfalfa-reference potential evapotranspiration (ETr) is a key model parameter in actual evapotranspiration (ETa) modeling for worldwide applications. This dataset was constructed for use with the Operational Simplified Surface Energy Balance (SSEBop) model as a key driver of the final ETa magnitude. SSEBop is a parametric energy balance-based model that determines actual ET as the product of two independent estimates: 1) the SSEBop modeled ET fraction (ETf), an index nominally varying between 0 and 1 and derived from observed Landsat surface temperature using satellite psychrometry, and 2) the potential ET (maximum) under environmental conditions for an alfalfa crop (in millimeters). As SSEBop ETf can now...

This is a Data Release containing conductivity and water temperature data for selected springs in the headwaters of the Potomac River basin. This work is supported by USGS Chesapeake Bay studies.
These data were compiled to measure airborne horizontal mass flux of sediments moved by wind across soils, climates, vegetation types, and land uses on the Colorado Plateau. Objectives of our study were to quantify spatial and temporal patterns in wind erosion and further our understanding of how soil and site setting, climate, and land uses are controlling wind erosion and horizontal mass flux. These data represent seasonal cumulative horizontal mass flux as measured using passive aspirated sediment traps, Big Spring Number Eight (BSNE) samplers. These data were collected in Grand and San Juan counties, Utah, and Mesa County, Colorado, USA between August 2017 and November 2020. These data were collected by the...
This metadata record describes the 30 year (1990-2019) annual average difference between precipitation potential evapotranspiration in millimeters in geotiff format. The source data is based on the ClimGrid netcdf data for precipitation and temperature (Wieczorek and others, 2022). Units are millimeters.

Wildfire events are becoming more frequent and severe on a global scale. Rising temperatures, prolonged drought, and the presence of pyrophytic invasive grasses are contributing to the degradation of native vegetation communities. Within the Great Basin region of the Western United States, increasing wildfire frequency is transforming the ecosystem toward a higher degree of homogeneity, one dominated by invasive annual grasses and declining landscape productivity. Greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus; hereafter sage-grouse) are a species of conservation concern that rely on large tracts of structurally and functionally diverse sagebrush (Artemisia spp.) communities. Using a 12-year (2008-2019) telemetry...
