This child data release includes hyperspectral and RGB images acquired from an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) during an experiment performed at the USGS Columbia Environmental Research Center, near Columbia, Missouri, on April 2, 2019. The purpose of the experiment was to assess the feasibility of inferring concentrations of a visible dye (Rhodamine WT) tracer from various types of remotely sensed data in water with varying levels of turbidity. Whereas previous research on remote sensing of tracer dye concentrations has focused on clear-flowing streams, the Missouri River is much more turbid and the reflectance signal associated with the sediment-laden water could obscure that related to the presence and amount...

This child data release includes RGB (red-green-blue) videos acquired from an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) during a tracer experiment performed on the Missouri River near Columbia, Missouri, on May 5, 2021. One of the primary goals of this tracer experiment was to assess the feasibility of inferring concentrations of a visible dye (Rhodamine WT) from various types of remotely sensed data in a large, highly turbid natural river channel. Previous research on remote sensing of tracer dye concentrations has focused on clear-flowing streams, but the Missouri River is much more turbid. As a result, the effect of the dye on the reflectance of the water could be obscured by the effects of suspended sediment on reflectance....

We measured ontogenetic changes in routine and maximum swimming speeds of bighead, grass, and silver carp larvae. Daily measurements of routine swimming speed were taken for two weeks post-hatch using a still camera and the LARVEL program, a custom image-analysis software. Larval swimming speed was calculated using larval locations in subsequent image frames and time between images. Using an endurance chamber, we determined the maximum swimming speed of larvae (post gas bladder inflation) for four to eight weeks post-hatch.

South America is part of Region 6 (Central and South America) for the World Energy Assessment. South America was divided into 107 geologic provinces as background for prioritization and assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources. The boundaries of geologic provinces are required for the assessment as oil and gas. Data must be allocated to a geographic entity so that decisions can be made as to which provinces are priority for the assessment. Many sources of geologic information were used to define the province boundaries in South America, and several versions of the map were reviewed. Of the 107 geologic provinces defined in South America, about 40 have had some oil and gas production to date.

Airborne magnetic gradiometry data are provided here as part of the data release, "Airborne magnetic and radiometric survey, Columbia, South Carolina and surrounds, 2020." This website includes the processed aeromagnetic data provided in an ascii .csv file and a geoTIFF image showing the magnetic field intensity. The contractor report is available on the parent page. These data were collected as part of a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over Columbia, South Carolina and the surrounding region immediately northwest of an airborne magnetic and radiometric survey collected near Charleston, South Carolina in 2019 (Shah, 2020). Goals included imaging heavy mineral sands containing titanium,...

This inventory was originally created by Garcia-Delgado and others (2019) describing the landslides triggered by the M 5.7 Mesetas, Columbia earthquake that occurred on 24 December 2019 at 19:19:03 UTC. Care should be taken when comparing with other inventories because different authors use different mapping techniques. This inventory also could be associated with other earthquakes such as aftershocks or triggered events. Please check the author methods summary and the original data source for more information on these details and to confirm the viability of this inventory for your specific use. With the exception of the data from USGS sources, the inventory data and associated metadata were not acquired by the...

This data release provides digital flight line data for a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey over Columbia, South Carolina, and the surrounding region. The airborne data collection was funded by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Mapping Resource Initiative (Earth MRI) with goals of better understanding placer deposits containing critical mineral resources titanium, zirconium, and rare earth elements and of imaging the crystalline basement partly buried beneath Atlantic Coastal Plain sediments. The survey was flown northwest of and slightly overlapping an airborne magnetic and radiometric survey collected in 2019 (Shah, 2020). The northwestern boundary of the 2020 survey lies within the...
