Tribal communities are especially vulnerable to the effects of climate change because of their reliance on the natural environment to sustain traditional activities and their limited resources to respond to climate change impacts. At the same time, tribes have valuable traditional knowledge that can aid regional efforts to address climate change. There were two overarching goals of this project: The first was to build partnerships between South Central Climate Science Center (SC CSC) researchers and tribal communities, linking tribes with climate change tools and resources and developing a model that could be replicated in other regions. A public use microdata area (PUMA) is an area with a decennial census population of 100,000 or more people for which the U.S. Census Bureau provides specially selected extracts of raw data from a small sample of long-form census records screened to protect confidentiality. These extracts are referred to as "public use microdata sample (PUMS)" files. Data users can use these files to create their own statistical tabulations and data summaries. This metadata record describes a series of data sets of natural and anthropogenic landscape features linked to NHDPlus Version 2.1’s (NHDPlusV2) approximately 2.7 million stream segments, their associated catchments, and their upstream watersheds within the conterminous United States. The data were linked to four spatial components of NHDPlusV2: individual reach catchments, riparian buffer zones around individual reaches, reach catchments accumulated downstream through the river network, and riparian buffer zones accumulated downstream through the river network. This project supported a climate assessment workshop for the Northwest region. The workshop brought together regional stakeholders interested in understanding regional climate impacts and identifying strategies for adapting resources to changing conditions. The workshop also initiated a process of participatory activities and communication about the climate assessment, which helped contribute to the broader National Climate Assessment (NCA). By discussing adaptive management solutions with regional stakeholders, the workshop provided regional case study results to the NCA, such as information on local lessons and best practices. This roads dataset for Wyoming has been extracted from the U.S. Census TIGER/Line shapefiles (http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger) and is avialable here as a statewide dataset. Data for each county was merged to create the statewide dataset. Road data was then extracted from the 'edges' (attribute: roadflg, 'Y') line data by WyGISC. The Appalachian region is rich in biodiversity that is highly threatened by energy production, development, and a host of other factors. Large-scale impacts such as climate change will play out within this context, affecting habitats and species in different ways. Understanding the vulnerability of various species and habitats within the Appalachian LCC to such changes is of critical importance.
