LiDAR data is remotely sensed high-resolution elevation data collected by an airborne collection platform. Using a combination of laser rangefinding, GPS positioning and inertial measurement technologies; LiDAR instruments are able to make highly detailed Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) of the earth's terrain, man-made structures and vegetation.

In 2021, the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) funded the collection of topo-bathymetric lidar (sometimes referred to as "green lidar") on the McKenzie River, Oregon. As part of this acquisition, lidar data were collected starting on the McKenzie River below Trail Bridge Reservoir and extending downstream roughly 125 km to its confluence with the Willamette River. Bathymetric lidar produced measurements of river bathymetry in areas of the McKenzie River channel that were generally less than 3 m in depth but did not produce measurements in deeper areas of the river. To fill the gaps in the topo-bathymetric lidar dataset (commonly referred to as "voids"), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers funded USGS to collect boat-based...

On October 13, 2020 a survey of Upper Letts Lake was conducted where both bathymetric and terrestrial lidar data were collected. Additionally, six bed material samples and three core samples were collected to understand the characterization of the grain-size of the lake bed. Survey data were merged with an additional lidar dataset from the USGS 3DEP program to create digital elevation model (DEM). The DEM was used to update the stage-storage and stage-surface area tables for the reservoir. This data release provides the following data sets; 1) bathymetric and terrestrial elevation data, 2) Combined bathymetric and 3DEP DEM, 3) stage-storage and stage-surface area tables from DEM, and 4) bed material grain-size and...

This data release includes the input topographic data sets, model parameters, and validation field measurements of flow velocity used to develop and test multidimensional hydraulic models for a reach of the upper Sacramento River in northern California. Digital elevation models (DEMs) were developed by combining water depth maps of the reach, created using spectrally-based remote sensing methods, with light detection and ranging (lidar) data on water surface and terrestrial elevations. The depth maps were derived from three imagery sources: (1) airborne hyperspectral imagery (CASI); (2) uncrewed aerial survey (UAS)-based hyperspectral imagery (Nano); and (3) multispectral satellite imagery (WV3). The methods used...

Some species respond to environments directly related to altitudinal variation. Elevation (e.g., DEM) is easily implemented in spatial modeling by limiting the model to the minimum and maximum values explicitly stated in the literature. DEMs are utilized directly and are measured in meters above mean sea level. The elevation dataset was derived from the National Elevation Dataset, elevation units are reported in meters. For more information regarding the National Elevation Dataset, see http://ned.usgs.gov/. This is a continuous data layer. These data are divided into 6 regions across the US (Northwest, Southwest, Great Plains, Upper Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast). If you want complete coverage of the entire...
