The 303(d) Listed Impaired Waters program system provides impaired water data and impaired water features reflecting river segments, lakes, and estuaries designated under Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act. Each State will establish Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for these waters. Note the CWA Section 303(d) list of impaired waters does not represent waters that are impaired but have an EPA-approved TMDL established, impaired waters for which other pollution control mechanisms are in place and expected to attain water quality standards, or waters impaired as a result of pollution and is not caused by a pollutant; therefore, the "Impaired Waters" layers do not represent all impaired waters reported in a state's...

The NHDPlus Version 1.0 is an integrated suite of application-ready geospatial data sets that incorporate many of the best features of the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) and the National Elevation Dataset (NED). The NHDPlus includes a stream network (based on the 1:100,000-scale NHD), improved networking, naming, and "value-added attributes" (VAA's). NHDPlus also includes elevation-derived catchments (drainage areas) produced using a drainage enforcement technique first broadly applied in New England, and thus dubbed "The New-England Method". This technique involves "burning-in" the 1:100,000-scale NHD and when available building "walls" using the national Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). The resulting modified...

This dataset depicts the distribution and summary toxic chemical release information for pulp and paper mills within the United States. This dataset is based on data retrieved from the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) database on 4/2008 by the Conservation Biology Institute (CBI). These data are based on the 2006 EPA reporting year, and do not reflect cumulative toxic release quantities for previous years. Using a series of queries against the TRI database, we compiled information about the locations of pulp and paper mills and quantities of toxic chemical release by various categories. From this information, we calculated the total toxic chemical release, and split this into...

This is the flowline feature in the NHD plus dataset for region 18 with just the streams and rivers designated as perrenial. For full attribute definition, consult the NHD plus user guide. TNC joined the attributes from the tbl_nhd_flowlineattributesflow table in the geodatabase to get all of the relevant attributes. Updated EPA impaired waters data was combined with the data used in the 2011 COP REA by the Conservation Biology Institute. The three dataset types (point, line, polygon) were converted to raster (at 30m resolution) to facilitate coverage calculations across reporting units. The resulting EPA impaired waters raster was clipped to the study area of Utah and the Colorado Plateau Ecoregion.Original Metadata:The 303(d) Listed Impaired Waters program system provides impaired water data and impaired water features reflecting river segments, lakes, and estuaries designated under Section 303(d) of the Clean Water Act.
