The Surface Management Agency (SMA) Geographic Information System (GIS) dataset depicts Federal land for the United States and classifies this land by its active Federal surface managing agency. The SMA feature class covers the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa and the Virgin Islands. A Federal SMA agency refers to a Federal agency with administrative jurisdiction over the surface of Federal lands. Jurisdiction over the land is defined when the land is either: Withdrawn by some administrative or legislative action, or Acquired or Exchanged by a Federal Agency. This layer is a dynamic assembly of spatial data layers maintained at various federal and local government offices....

GeoCommunicator is a website and ESRI Image Mapping Service (IMS) (www.geocommunicator.gov) for cadastral survey and land management information and data from the National Integrated Land System. The website provides distribution of Public Land Survey System (PLSS), other survey-based data, and the federal surface management agency boundaries. Land and mineral use record information, mining claims, and conveyances from the BLM's LR2000 system can be accessed and mapped through the geocommunicator IMS.

This data layer consists of National Wilderness Preservation System areas in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The map layer was created by combining the best available data from the federal agency responsible for administration of a given wilderness area. Where larger scale data could not be obtained the National Atlas layer "National Wilderness Preservation System" was used as the data source. In its present form source data varies from a scale of 1:10000 to 1:2,000,000 (see lineage for details on source scale). Additional features have been added by the Environmental Science Division, Argonne National Laboratory based on their work with federal agencies; mainly BLM.
Protected lands within the Mississippi River Basin (MRB).The USGS Protected Areas Database of the United States (PAD-US) is the nation's inventory of protected areas, including public open space and voluntarily provided, private protected areas, identified as an A-16 National Geospatial Data Asset in the Cadastral Theme (http://www.fgdc.gov/ngda-reports/NGDA_Datasets.html). PAD-US is an ongoing project with several published versions of a spatial database of areas dedicated to the preservation of biological diversity, and other natural, recreational or cultural uses, managed for these purposes through legal or other effective means. The geodatabase maps and describes public open space and other protected areas....

The dataset depicts the authoritative boundaries of the most commonly known Department of Defense (DoD) sites, installations, ranges, and training areas in the United States and Territories. These sites encompass land which is federally owned or otherwise managed. This dataset was created from source data provided by the four Military Service Component headquarters and was compiled by the Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure (DISDI) Program within the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations and Environment, Business Enterprise Integration Directorate. Sites were selected from the 2009 Base Structure Report (BSR), a summary of the DoD Real Property Inventory. This list does not...

This dataset constitutes the spatial boundaries for Visual Resource Inventory Class (CLASS) polygons and respective relative ratings (Class I, II, III, or IV) for visual resource values across the area being inventoried. These inventory classes represent the relative value of the visual resources. Classes I and II being the most valued, Class III representing a moderate value, and Class IV being of least value. BLM administered lands are placed into the inventory classes based on the overlay of three spatial data sets; visual appeal of a tract of land (scenic quality), the amount of public concern for scenic quality (visual sensitivity), and whether the tract of land is visible from travel routes or observation...

This data set consists of federally owned land polygon features of the United States. The data set was created by extracting federal land polygon features from the individual 1:2,000,000-scale State boundary Digital Line Graph (DLG) files produced by the U.S. Geological Survey. These files were then appended into a single coverage. This is a revised version of the June 1998 data set. There may be private inholdings within the boundaries of Federal Lands in this data set. These data are intended for geographic display and analysis at the national level, and for large regional areas. The data should be displayed and analyzed at scales appropriate for 1:2,000,000-scale data. No responsibility is assumed by the U.S....

This data set portrays the land ownership polygon features in the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Colorado Plateau coal assessment study area (Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona). The data set was created by clipping a national land ownership coverage of federal land polygon features that had been extracted from the individual USGS 1:2,000,000-scale state boundary Digital Line Graph (DLG) files and then paneled into a single coverage. The original national coverage metadata document is included here and modified slightly to indicate that the geographic areal extent is that of portions of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.
