In 2004, about 90 migrating elk drowned after attempting to cross thin ice on the Mores Creek arm of Lucky Peak Lake upstream of the Highway 21 bridge. To better understand the depths over a range of reservoir pool elevations in the Mores Creek Arm, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Lucky Peak Power Plant Project, conducted high-resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) bathymetric surveys on the Mores Creek arm on Lucky Peak Lake. The MBES data will assist reservoir managers and wildlife biologists with regulating reservoir water surface elevations (WSE) to support successful big game migration across Mores Creek on Lucky Peak Lake. Data collection provided nearly 100 percent coverage of bed elevations...

Ground-based transient electromagnetic (TEM) data were acquired by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in selected locations near Manistee National Forest, Michigan, to define the resistivity structure of the subsurface. Data were acquired using the ABEM WalkTEM system (Guideline Geo Ab, Sundbyberg, Sweden). TEM data were processed and numerically inverted to derive one-dimensional resistivity structure using SPIA (Aarhus Geosoftware, Aarhus, Denmark). This release includes raw and processed TEM data and resistivity models for each data location using the following structure: MIT_TEM_2020.zip ├── Data │ ├── MIT_USF │ │ ├── USF_format_description.pdf - manual describing the USF file format │ │ ├── MIT_SoundingID-USF_lookup.csv...
This portion of the USGS data release presents bathymetry data collected during surveys performed in northern Monterey Bay, California in October 2014 (USGS Field Activity Number 2014-676-FA). Bathymetry data were collected using two personal watercraft (PWCs) equipped with single-beam sonar systems and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. The sonar systems consisted of an Odom Echotrac CV-100 single-beam echosounder and 200 kHz transducer with a 9° beam angle. Raw acoustic backscatter returns were digitized by the echosounder with a vertical resolution of 1.25 cm. Depths from the echosounders were computed using sound velocity profiles measured using a YSI CastAway CTD during the survey. Positioning...

This portion of the USGS data release presents topography data collected during surveys performed along northern Monterey Bay, California, in September 2017 (USGS Field Activity Number 2017-678-FA). Topographic profiles were collected on foot with GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. Prior to data collection, vertical distances between the GNSS antennas and the ground were measured using a tape measure. Hand-held data collectors were used to log raw data and display navigational information allowing surveyors to navigate survey lines spaced at 50- to 250-m intervals along the beach. Profiles were surveyed from the landward edge of the study area (either the base of a bluff, engineering structure, or just landward...

This portion of the USGS data release presents topography data collected during surveys performed on the Elwha River delta, Washington, in July 2017 (USGS Field Activity Number 2017-638-FA). Topography data were collected on foot with global navigation satellite system (GNSS) equipment mounted on backpacks operating primarily in Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) mode. A total of 6 GNSS backpacks, each equipped with a dual-frequency GNSS receiver and handheld data collector, were used during the survey. Differential corrections were transmitted at 1-Hz intervals by a VHF radio to the backpack GNSS receivers from a GNSS base station placed on a benchmark with known horizontal and vertical coordinates relative to the North...

Bathymetric data were collected with a single-beam echosounder in 2022 for 18 selected shallow (0-3 meters) areas to improve a digital elevation model (DEM) for Rainy Lake and Namakan Reservoir created by Environment and Climate Change Canada. Bathymetric data were collected in transects spaced approximately 20 meters apart. In addition to the bathymetric data, the locations and elevations of observed water surface and recovered high-water marks are being provided at select locations because of the high water observed during bathymetric data collection after a spring flood in 2022.

This data release presents beach topography and nearshore bathymetry data from repeated surveys performed by a team of scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey, Washington State Department of Ecology, and Oregon State University in the Columbia River littoral cell (CRLC), Washington and Oregon. The CRLC extends approximately 165 kilometers between Point Grenville (PG), Washington, and Tillamook Head (TH), Oregon (Figure 1A). The CRLC consists of four wide, gently sloping, beaches, or sub-cells, separated by the entrances of Grays Harbor, Willapa Bay, and the Columbia River. Areas were designated within a portion of each sub-cell and surveyed along a series of shore-perpendicular survey lines spaced at 100- to...
This portion of the USGS data release presents eelgrass distributions derived from towed underwater video surveys of the Nisqually River delta, Washington in 2012 (USGS Field Activity Number D-01-12-PS). Eelgrass data were collected from the R/V George Davidson equipped with a towed underwater video system and global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver. The underwater video system consisted of a Splashcam standard definition video camera connected to a Sony GV-D1000 video monitor and tape recorder. Positioning of the survey vessel was determined at 1 Hz intervals using a Trimble R7 GNSS receiver and Trimble Zephyr Model 2 antenna. The positioning data from the GNSS were encoded onto the audio track of the...
