Information on the nature and distribution of permafrost is critical to assessing the response of Arctic ecosystems to climate change, because thawing permafrost under a warming climate will cause thaw settlement and affect micro-topography, surface water redistribution and groundwater movement, soil carbon balance, trace gas emissions, vegetation changes, and habitat use. These data identify the time (0-1 min, 1-2 min,or 2-3 min) and distance (≤50 meters, >50 meters) category when birds were first detected during 3-minutes point counts at stop locations associated with North American Breeding Bird Survey routes or route equivalents that were surveyed on dates between 2009 and 2016 and provide point location coordinates of stop locations along North American Breeding Bird Survey routes or route equivalents within (or within 60 miles) the Gulf Coastal Plains & Ozarks Landscape Conservation Cooperative boundary.
The data release for the geologic terranes of the Hailey 1 x 2 degrees quadrangle and the western part of the Idaho Falls 1 x 2 degrees quadrangle, south-central Idaho is a Geologic Map Schema (GeMS)-compliant version that updates the GIS files for the geologic map published in U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Bulletin 2064-A (Worl and Johnson, 1995). In order to allow for a comparison across years we visually digitized landcover of Poplar Island from a single image per year at a 1:1000 spatial extent with a minimum mapping unit of 300 square meters (no minimum dimensions aside from area). Images used to assign landcover were provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and were captured between July and October of their respective years. All images were 1 foot resolution.

The compilation of an accurate and contemporary digital shoreline for Alaska is an important step in understanding coastal processes and measuring changes in coastal storm characteristics. Well-established conservation planning principles and techniques framed by geodesign were used to assess the restorability of areas that historically supported coastal wetlands along the U.S. shore of Saginaw Bay. The resulting analysis supported planning efforts to identify, prioritize, and track wetland restoration opportunity and investment in the region. To accomplish this, publicly available data, criteria derived from the regional managers and local stakeholders, and geospatial analysis were used to form an ecological model for spatial prioritization.

This metadata describes a digital elevation model (DEM) created from bathymetric and topographic data collected between 2017 and 2019 in the Sacramento River Deep Water Ship Channel (DWSC), northern Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California. We merged the newly collected bathymetric and topographic data presented in this data release (DOI:10.5066/P9AQSRVH) with 2019 surveys by the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and 2017 USGS Sacramento Delta Lidar, to produce a seamless digital elevation model of the DWSC at a grid resolution of 1 m.
Water availability, distribution, quality and quantity are critical habitat elements for fish and other water-dependent species. Furthermore, the availability of water is also a pre-requisite for a number of human activities. The density of weather and hydrology observation sites on the North Slope is orders of magnitude less than in other parts of the U.S., making it difficult to document hydrologic trends and develop accurate predictive models where water is a key input. The Geographic Information Network for Alaska will complete uniform and consistent ecological mapping of the North Slope region and provide a summary of existing field site ecological descriptions (including photos) in a web based environment. Existing automated field information and photos that have reliable geolocation information will be compiled and entered in a web based geographic display based on the ecological mapping.

The High Resolution National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus HR) is an integrated set of geospatial data layers, including the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), National Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD), and 3D Elevation Program Digital Elevation Model (3DEP DEM). The NHDPlus HR combines the NHD, 3DEP DEMs, and WBD to a data suite that includes the NHD stream network with linear referencing functionality, the WBD hydrologic units, elevation-derived catchment areas for each stream segment, "value added attributes" (VAAs), and other features that enhance hydrologic data analysis and routing.
LANDFIRE (LF) 2022 Fuel Vegetation Cover (FVC) represents the LF Existing Vegetation Cover (EVC) product, modified to represent pre-disturbance EVC in areas where disturbances have occurred over the past 10 years. EVC is mapped as continuous estimates of canopy cover for tree, shrub, and herbaceous lifeforms with a potential range from 10% to 100%. Continuous EVC values are binned to align with fuel model assignments when creating FVC. FVC is an input for fuel transitions related to disturbance. LANDFIRE's (LF) 2022 Forest Canopy Cover (CC) describes the percent cover of the tree canopy in a stand. CC is a vertical projection of the tree canopy cover onto an imaginary horizontal plane. CC supplies information for fire behavior models to determine the probability of crown fire initiation, provide input in the spotting model, calculate wind reductions, and to calculate fuel moisture conditioning.
