This digital map database represents the general distribution of bedrock and surficial geologic units, and related data in the Fonts Point and Seventeen Palms 7.5’ quadrangles, California. The database delineates map units that are identified by general age and lithology following the stratigraphic nomenclature of the U.S. Geological Survey. This investigation delineates the geologic framework of an area of 75 square kilometers (km2) located west of the Salton Sea in southern California. The study area encompasses the south flank of the Santa Rosa Mountains and the eastern part of the Borrego Badlands. In this study area, regionally important stratigraphic and structural elements collectively inform the late Cenozoic...

The 1:63,360 Kavik River geologic map area consists of ~620 square miles and ties together previous DGGS mapping in the Sadlerochit and Shublik Mountains area of the western Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) on the east and the structurally complex foothills and mountain front near the Kemik gas accumulation on the west. The map area exposes a unique intersection of North Slope stratigraphy where all three major depositional megasequences are mappable in close association (Ellesmerian, Beaufortian, and Brookian).

This map shows the subcrop pattern of the Mesozoic rock units present at the top Mesozoic unconformity (also commonly referred to as the base Tertiary unconformity) in Cook Inlet basin, Alaska. The subcrop is projected onto the top Mesozoic unconformity depth surface of Cook Inlet basin, Alaska, published by Shellenbaum and others (2010). Publicly available geologic and geophysical data from multiple sources were collected, interpreted, and integrated into the subcrop map. Formation picks at the top Mesozoic unconformity were determined for 109 wells. Mesozoic horizons from two regional marine two-dimensional (2-D) seismic datasets (approximately 3,300 miles) were interpreted. Eight map units were established for...

During 2008-2010, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys continued a program, begun in 2006, of reconnaissance mapping of surficial geology in the proposed natural-gas pipeline corridor through the upper Tanana River valley, a 12-mi-wide (19.3-km-wide) area that straddles the Alaska Highway through the upper Tanana River valley from the western boundaries of the Tanacross B-6 and C-6 Quadrangles near the mouth of the Robertson River eastward to the eastern boundaries of the Tanacross A-4 and B-4 Quadrangles near Tetlin Junction. Mapping during 2008-2010 in the Tanacross Quadrangle linked with mapping of surficial geology completed in the Big Delta and Mt. Hayes quadrangles in 2006-2007. Surficial...

During 2004 and 2005 DGGS Energy Section geologists, together with University of Alaska Fairbanks and USGS personnel, conducted 1:63,360-scale geologic mapping in the Siksikpuk River Area of the Chandler Lake B-4 and C-4 quadrangles in northern Alaska. This work was conducted as part of the USGS-funded STATEMAP project, part of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program.

This data release presents geologic map data for the surficial geology of the Aztec 1-degree by 2-degree quadrangle. The map area lies within two physiographic provinces of Fenneman (1928): the Southern Rocky Mountains province, and the Colorado Plateau province, Navajo section. Geologic mapping is mostly compiled from published geologic map data sources ranging from 1:24,000 to 1:250,000 scale, with limited new interpretive contributions. Gaps in map compilation are related to a lack of published geologic mapping at the time of compilation, and not necessarily a lack of surficial deposits. Much of the geology incorporated from published geologic maps is adjusted based on digital elevation model and natural-color...

This coverage includes arcs, polygons, and polygon labels that describe the generalized geologic age and type of surface outcrops of bedrock of Southeast Asia (Brunei, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Solomon Islands and Vietnam; and portions of Australia, China and Taiwan). It also includes shorelines and inland water bodies.

This coverage includes arcs, polygons and polygon labels that describe U.S. Geological Survey defined geologic provinces of Southeast Asia (Brunei, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam; and parts of Australia, China and Taiwan). Each province has a set of geologic characteristics distinguishing it from surrounding provinces. These characteristics may include the dominant lithologies, the age of the strata, and the structural style. Some provinces include multiple genetically-related basins. Offshore province boundaries are defined by the 2000 meter bathymetric contour.

This 1:24,000-scale geologic map includes new geologic mapping as well as compilation and revision of previous geologic maps. Field investigations were conducted from 2009-2011, while also mapping and investigating the geology and hydrology of the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, west of the map area. The Fittstown quadrangle is in the northeastern part of the Arbuckle Mountains. The Arbuckle Mountains are composed of a thick sequence of Paleozoic sedimentary rocks that overlie Early Cambrian and Precambrian igneous rocks; these latter rocks are not exposed in the quadrangle. From middle to late Pennsylvanian time, the Arbuckle Mountains region was folded, faulted, and uplifted. Periods of erosion followed these...

Lunar geology is mapped on the basis of the principles of stratigraphic sequence. Superposition relations are determined and crater morphologies compared. The sequences of geologic events can then be reconstructed and stratigraphic units can be placed in the established lunar time-stratigraphic system (Shoemaker, 1962; Shoemaker and Hackman, 1962, McCauley, 1967; and Wilhelms, 1970). The age of a crater is determined from several lines of evidence, but particularly from the morphologic criteria discussed by Pohn and Offield (1970) , who studied crater morphologies on Lunar Orbiter photographs and correlated morphologic stages with the lunar time-stratigraphic system (Offield and Pohn, 1970; Offield, 1971). Particularly...

The brightly rayed crater Coperincus, one of the most familiar features of the Moon served as the type example of an impact crater in Shoemaker's (1962) classic analysis. This map shows the geology of the crater as interpreted in photographs taken by Lunar Orbiter V. A geologic map at 1:1000000 scale showing the regional setting of Copernicus and the extent of the rim deposits and satellite craters was prepaid from telescopic observations by Schmitt, Trask, and Shoemaker (1967).

The Systematic mapping of lava flow units in the Tharsis region has been compiled into a series of 16 maps at 1:2,000,000 scale. This work provides information on the sources and areal extent of the lava flows, on their eruptive sequences and relative ages, and on relations between the flows and geologic structure in the largest, most active tectonic and volcanic province on Mars. Some of the maps were made from controlled Viking photomosaics published as quarter quadrangles in the Atlas of Mars Topographic Series (U.S. Geological Survey, 1979) and tied to the Viking control net. Where these photomosaics were not available, larger scale catalog photomosaics tied to the Mariner 9 control net were used. These maps...
