This dataset includes the locations of magnetotelluric (MT) stations collected in 2006 in the Southern San Luis Valley, Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies, including MT surveys, in the San Luis Valley to improve understanding of the hydrogeology of the Santa Fe Group and the nature of the sedimentary deposits comprising the principal groundwater aquifers of the Rio Grande rift. The shallow unconfined and the deeper confined Santa Fe Group aquifers in the San Luis Basin are the main sources of municipal water for the region. The population of the San Luis Valley region is growing rapidly and water shortfalls could have serious consequences. Future growth and land...

Investigation of injection-induced seismicity using a coupled fluid flow and rate/state friction model, credited to McClure, MW, published in 2011. Published in Geophysics, volume 76, issue 6, in 2011.
The Quaternary Fault and Fold Database contains the results of thousands of scientific assessments of faults and associated folds in the United States that demonstrate geologic evidence for coseismic surface deformation in the Quaternary (the past 1,600,000 years). The Quaternary Fault and Fold Database includes information on the age of the most recent coseismic surface deformation, relative rates of activity, fault geometry, sense of movement, and citations of pertinent literature. Much of the information in the database is based on paleoseismology, which is the geologic study of prehistoric earthquakes. Paleoseismology combines well-established geologic practices such as trenching with archeological-style analysis...
First Release: Aug 2017 Revised: May 2018 (ver. 1.1) Time-series data of velocity, pressure, turbidity, conductivity, and temperature were collected near the mouth of the Elwha River, Washington, USA, from December 2010 through October 2014, for the Department of Interior’s Elwha River Restoration project. As part of this project, the U.S. Geological Survey studied the effects of renewed sediment supplies on the coastal ecosystems before, during, and following the removal of two dams, Elwha and Glines Canyon, from the Elwha River. Removal of the dams reintroduced sediment stored in the reservoirs to the river, and the river moved much of this sediment to the coast. Several benthic tripods were instrumented with...

This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 2008 in and near the Patagonia Mountains of Arizona. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conducted a series of multidisciplinary studies as part of the Assessment Techniques for Concealed Mineral Resources project funded by the USGS Minerals Resources Program in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service.
Seismicdata from the Paradox basin, southeast Utah, exhibit amplitude anomaliesassociated with the presence of Pennsylvanian algal mound reservoirs. Anexperimental line over the Patterson and Nancy fields shows amplitudereductions corresponding to reservoir mound facies. Amplitude reduction is dueto the lateral facies change from intermound evaporite-dominated facies tothe carbonate algal mound facies. Porosity in the mound faciesaccentuates the amplitude reduction but the influence of porosity isminor compared to the effect of the lateral lithologic change.Recurrent movement on basement faults during the Pennsylvanian may havecontrolled the location of these mounds. 1988 Society of Exploration Geophysicists Published...

The ANSS Backbone Network is based on the core of the original US National Seismic Network. In partnership with the National Science Foundation, the USGS worked with the Earthscope program (through the USArray project and IRIS) in 2004-2006 to upgrade and install new backbone stations. This effort was completed in September 2006, with 15 new stations installed and 20 existing stations upgraded. Today, the ANSS Backbone consists of nearly 100 stations in the United States, many of them contributed by partner networks and organizations.

Changes in continental water stores, largely human-induced, affect sea level. Better hydrological models and observations could clarify the land's role in sea-level variations.
This dataset includes the magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data collected in 2005 along an east-west profile north of Wells, Nevada. It is important to know whether major mining districts in the Northern Nevada Gold Province are underlain by rocks of the Archean Wyoming craton, which are known to contain orogenic gold deposits, or by accreted rocks of the Paleoproterozoic Mojave province. It is also important to know the location and orientation of the Archean/Proterozoic suture zone between these provinces as well as major basement structures within these terranes because they may influence subsequent patterns of sedimentation, deformation, magmatism, and hydrothermal activity. This study was funded by the U.S. Geological...
Introduction This data release is a compilation of known landslides, debris flows, lahars, and outburst floods that generated seismic signals observable on existing seismic networks. The data release includes basic information about each event such as location, volume, area, and runout distances as well as information about seismic detections and the location of seismic data, photos, maps, GIS files, and links to papers, websites, and media reports about the event. Not all record types exist for each event, and the quality of the information varies from event to event. While the SQLite3 database (lsseis.db) is the native format of this database and preserves its relational structure, for the convenience of users,...

High resolution magnetic and gravity gradient data were collected using the HeliFalcon airborne gravity gradiometry system together with a stinger-mounted magnetometer. The survey took place out of the Sullivan, Missouri airport during March of 2014. The survey covers a 35 x 37 square-kilometer area centered on the Pea Ridge iron oxide-apatite rare-earth element deposit, which is located about halfway between the towns of Sullivan and Potosi, Missouri. Data were collected along north-south flight lines spaced 400 m apart with east-west tie lines flown every 4000 m. A nominal flight height above terrain of 80 m was maintained except where safety dictated a higher elevation. A total of 3538 line km of data were collected....

We evaluate the ability of global climate models participating in phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) to reproduce observed seasonality and interannual variability of temperature over the Caribbean, and compare these with simulations from atmosphere-only (AMIP5) and previous-generation CMIP3 models. Compared to station and gridded observations, nearly every CMIP5, CMIP3 and AMIP5 simulation tends to reproduce the primary inter-regional features of the Caribbean annual temperature cycle. In most coupled model simulations, however, boreal summer temperature lags observations by about 1 month, with a similar lag in the simulated annual cycle of sea surface temperature (SST), and a systematic...
