Habitat selection studies can make important contributions to habitat prioritization efforts for species of conservation concern. We present a large-scale collaborative effort to develop habitat selection models for Greater Sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) across large landscapes (Wyoming, USA) and multiple seasons. Greater Sage-grouse are limited to western semi-arid landscapes in North America, range-wide population declines have been documented, and the species is currently listed a “warranted but precluded” from listing under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. Wyoming is predicted to remain a stronghold for Sage-grouse populations and contains approximately 37% of the remaining birds. We developed Resource...

This raster file represents classification and mapping results for priority area 1 of the Cody Region and Yellowstone National Park land cover remote sensing project. Extensive field collected reference data describing the range of plant communities and habitat types comprising the Bighorn Basin have been analyzed to produce a classification of land cover types based on the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) Wildlife Observation System (WOS). Corresponding land cover classes were subsequently spatially modeled using a non-parametric Classification and Regression Tree (CART) algorithm that integrated both spectral data from Landsat Thematic Mapper satellite imagery and a variety of ancillary environmental data...

These bat location estimates have been reported by Bogan and others (In press) and come in the form of a GIS shape file. Three species of nectar-feeding phyllostomid bats migrate north from Mexico into deserts of the United States (U.S.) each spring and summer to feed on blooms of columnar cacti and century plants (Agave spp). However, the habitat needs of these important desert pollinators are poorly understood. We followed the nighttime movements of two species of long-nosed bats (Leptonycteris yerbabuenae and L. nivalis) in an area of late-summer sympatry at the northern edges of their migratory ranges. We radiotracked bats in extreme southwestern New Mexico during 22 nights over two summers and acquired location...

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and California Department of Fish and Game (CDFG) commissioned the California Essential Habitat Connectivity Project because a functional network of connected wildlands is essential to the continued support of California's diverse natural communities in the face of human development and climate change. The Essential Connectivity Map depicts large, relatively natural habitat blocks that support native biodiversity (Natural Landscape Blocks) and areas essential for ecological connectivity between them (Essential Connectivity Areas). This coarse-scale map was based primarily on the concept of ecological integrity, rather than the needs of particular species. Essential...

This dataset provides an estimate of landscape intactness (i.e. condition) across the mountain lion's potential distribution. Current terrestrial intactness estimates are based on the extent to which human impacts such as agriculture, urban development, natural resource extraction, and invasive species have disrupted the landscape across the Colorado Plateau Ecoregion. Terrestrial intactness values will be high in areas where these impacts are low. This 1 km2 resolution dataset (v2_13F) was created for the Colorado Plateau REA stepdown analysis using the open-source logic modeling framework Environmental Evaluation Modeling System (EEMS). Spatially-explicit logic modeling hierarchically integrates numerous and diverse...

This specific Utah dataset displays vegatation departure between current vegetation conditions and reference vegetation conditions) index represented using a 0 to 100 percent scale, with 100 representing maximum departure. The Utah dataset was reclassified so additional layer values representing Water (111), Snow / Ice (112), Urban (120), Barren (131), Sparsely Vegetated BpS (132), and Agriculture (180) are NO LONGER INCLUDED in this dataset. Please see general Landfire description below for more detailed information on the VDEP product.Broad-scale alterations of historical fire regimes and vegetation dynamics have occurred in many landscapes in the U.S. through the combined influence of land management practices,...

This dataset was obtained by the Conservation Biology Institute without standard metadata. Additional information is available directly from the Southwest Regional Gap Analysis Project webpage (http://fws-nmcfwru.nmsu.edu/swregap/HabitatModels/default.htm). Some information was collected from that site and presented in this metadata record. A key task was the development of seamless animal-habitat models for all terrestrial vertebrate species for the region. Through coordination from the U.S. Geological Survey's Gap Analysis Program (GAP) and the collaborative efforts of participating state institutions, 819 seamless habitat models were completed in September 2005. These data are made available to the public by...
