U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists completed a multidisciplinary data collection effort during the week of October 21-25, 2019, using new technologies to map and validate bathymetry over a large stretch of the non-tidal Potomac River. The work was initiated as an effort to validate commercially-acquired topobathymetric light detection and ranging (lidar) data funded through a partnership between the USGS and the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin (ICPRB). The goal was to compare airborne lidar data to bathymetric data collected through more traditional means (boat-based sonar, wading Real Time Kinematic Global Navigational Satellite System (RTK-GNSS) surveys) and through unmanned aerial systems...

These data were collected from the TOPGUN-SODA10 2AK core collected in 2010 by LacCore (University of Minnesota), the USGS. and the University of California (U.C.) Berkeley. The 8.9 meter length core had stable isotopes of oxygen and carbon sampled every 10 millimeters or so, and diatoms samples at every 50 millimeters to 200 millimeters depending on the depth in the core. mineralogic data were collected using X-ray diffraction and grain-size analysis were done at various depths. These data are used to interpret the Holocene and late Pleistocene hydrology and paleoclimate of the lake and the region. The interpretation can be found in: Rosen, M.R., Reidy, L., Starratt, S., Zimmerman, S., in review, Middle Holocene...

The High Resolution National Hydrography Dataset Plus (NHDPlus HR) is an integrated set of geospatial data layers, including the best available National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), the 10-meter 3D Elevation Program Digital Elevation Model (3DEP DEM), and the National Watershed Boundary Dataset (WBD). The NHDPlus HR combines the NHD, 3DEP DEMs, and WBD to create a stream network with linear referencing, feature naming, "value added attributes" (VAAs), elevation-derived catchments, and other features for hydrologic data analysis. The stream network with linear referencing is a system of data relationships applied to hydrographic systems so that one stream reach "flows" into another and "events" can be tied to and traced...

Short-term aquifer tests were conducted to estimate hydraulic properties in an alluvial aquifer. Tests included eight single-hole pumping and recovery tests and three slug tests (in a single well). These investigations were conducted in the Wet Mountain Valley, in Custer and Fremont Counties, Colorado. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) conducted aquifer tests in May, 2019. These aquifer tests inform the conceptual understanding of the valley-fill aquifer and serve as primary inputs to the numerical groundwater-flow model. Testing was completed in cooperation with the Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District. This data release supports the study by Newman and others (2020) and contains raw data from aquifer tests,...

This child item contains fiber-optic distributed temperature sensing (FO-DTS) data collected along the streambed interface of two streams named Cement Creek and California Gulch Creek located near Silverton Colorado. The FO-DTS method utilizes the temperature-dependent backscatter of light pulses emitted along armored fiber-optic cables to evaluate temperature at discrete linear sampling locations. For these deployments a Salixa XT-DTS control unit (Salixa Ltd, Hertfordshire, UK) was used, and measurements were made over several day increments at 0.508 m linear resolution along the streambed interface. Specific locations for collected data are located within the data files, and additional details are contained in...

This child item contains ground penetrating radar (GPR) data collected over a small alpine wetland between Mogul Mine and Cement Creek located near Silverton, Colorado. Mine-impacted water is transported to Cement Creek via surface channels and groundwater through this wetland. The GPR method transmits radar pulses into the ground and measures the returned amplitude from these pulses over time. Variations in subsurface electromagnetic (EM) properties (dielectric permittivity, electrical conductivity, and magnetic susceptibility) affect the timing and amplitude of returned radar energy. For example, variation in water or mineral content are physical properties that often influence the EM properties that are observed...

The dataset provided here and described in this metadata document consists of several components: (1) pool-specific attributes including name and geographic location, (2) time-varying inundation observations collected between May 2004 and July 2016; (3) landscape attributes associated with pool locations including geologic, soil, and landcover characteristics; (4) short- and medium-term weather and climate variables for time periods (for example, 5-days and 6-months) immediately preceding the dates of inundation observations; and (5) long-term (30-year average) climate variables associated with pool locations.
Our objective is to develop improved integration of data and models of soil and ecosystem processes at the regional scale in order to better quantify change in response disturbances, particularly drought. Specifically, we synthesize existing and generate new datasets of soil properties of soils form the Upper Colorado River Basin region of the Western US. Data types include geospatial databases and maps; soil physical, chemical, and biological datasets; soil hydrologic data; stream and river chemistry associated with regional mapping of soils; model input parameterizations and output data.

This data release comprises the raster data files and code necessary to perform all analyses presented in the associated publication. The 16 TIF raster data files are classified surface water maps created using the Dynamic Surface Water Extent (DSWE) model implemented in Google Earth Engine using published technical documents. The 16 tiles cover the country of Cambodia, a flood-prone country in Southeast Asia lacking a comprehensive stream gauging network. Each file includes 372 bands. Bands represent surface water for each month from 1988 to 2018, and are stacked from oldest (Band 1 - January 1988) to newest (Band 372 - December 2018). DSWE classifies pixels unobscured by cloud, cloud shadow, or snow into five...

To support the modeling of storm-induced flooding, the USGS Coastal National Elevation Database (CoNED) Applications Project has created an integrated 1-meter topobathymetric digital elevation model (TBDEM) for Puget Sound. Puget Sound is located along the northwestern coast of Washington and is part of the Salish Sea. Puget Sound is the third largest estuary in the United States. High-resolution coastal elevation data is required to identify flood, storm, and sea-level rise inundation hazard zones and other earth science applications, such as the development of sediment transport and storm surge models. The new TBDEM consists of the best available multi-source topographic and bathymetric elevation data for Puget...
