This item contains a data file (.csv) and associated metadata document (.xml) for the daily time-step hydrologic model for Sinking Pond from January 1, 1854 through September 30, 2019 under the original calibration and the recalibration, along with daily climate (temperature and precipitation) values and observed stage values used in the recalibration process. The data file ‘Daily_values_for_climate_stage_and_model_terms.csv’ is a required input to the R script in this data release as it provides the daily climate variables used to drive the model and the daily stage values used for calibration. Residence time distribution (RTD) is a critically important characteristic of groundwater flow systems; however, it cannot be measured directly. RTD can be inferred from tracer data with analytical models (few parameters) or with numerical models (many parameters). The second approach permits more variation in system properties but is used less frequently than the first because large-scale numerical models can be resource intensive. Mount Adams, also known by the Native American names "Klickitat" or "Pahto", is a 3,742 meter-tall (12,278 feet) stratovolcano located 53 km (33 miles) north of the Columbia river straddling the borders of Skamania County, Yakima County and the Yakama Nation Reservation. Mount Adams lies in the middle of the Mount Adams volcanic field—a 1,250 square kilometer area (about 480 square miles) comprising at least 120, mostly basaltic volcanoes that form spatter and scoria cones, shield volcanoes, and some extensive lava flows. Upon reactivation, movement of deep-seated landslides in the Greater Pittsburgh region may persist for long periods of time. Monitoring equipment was located at two sites on a deep-seated rockslide in Aleppo Township, Pennsylvania to establish relationships between precipitation and changes in the state of activity and velocity. Precipitation, snow depth, and air temperature are monitored at a weather station (ARS_WS) located in a relatively flat, open area in the northern part of the rockslide. This dataset consists of contours showing the generalized depth to water for the shallow groundwater system in the Lower Gunnison River Basin in Delta, Montrose, Ouray, and Gunnison Counties, Colorado. Depth to water was contoured from values in the raster dataset dtw. The U.S. Geological Survey prepared this dataset in cooperation with the Colorado Water Conservation Board.

Water-surface elevations were recorded by 17 submerged water level loggers between March and October, 2016 along a 3 kilometer reach of the upper Deschutes River, Oregon. 15 water level loggers were installed along the channel margins and 2 loggers were placed in off-channel wetland ponds. Submerged depths recorded at each logger were converted to water surface elevations using real-time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) measurements of water surface elevation near each water level logger location. Water surface elevation recorded at the loggers captured discharges ranging from approximately 600 to over 2,000 cubic feet/second recorded at the Bureau of Reclamation gage at Benham Falls.

The domain of the HEC-RAS hydraulic model is a 12.9-mile reach of Johnson Creek from just upstream of SE 174th Avenue in Portland, Oregon, to its confluence with the Willamette River. Geospatial datasets were developed to estimate the depth to the top of the Dakota Sandstone in feet below land surface datum within the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in Colorado. This study was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. One dataset was created for the contours showing the altitude (in feet) of the top of the Dakota Sandstone (shapefile Kd_talt_hand), and a second dataset was created for polygons representing the outcrops of the Dakota Sandstone (shapefile Dakota_outcrop_poly). Great Lakes coastal marshes have the potential to filter water coming off of the landscape and remove sediments and nutrients before they reach the lakes. However, this ability has largely been neutralized as vast areas of coastal wetlands have been isolated behind dikes; while at the same time the Great Lakes continue to suffer from excess phosphorus loading. In this study we used high-frequency measurements of discharge and turbidity to estimate sediment and phosphorus retention in a formerly diked coastal wetland. We found sediment and phosphorus retention to be episodic and highly related to fluctuations in water level. This dataset provides locations and values of water quality parameters from a four-day survey conducted between August 23, 2016 and August 26, 2016 using an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) in Great South Bay, New York. Measured parameters include bottom dissolved oxygen (DO), salinity, specific conductance, water temperature, and pH. During the four day period, data was collected along 15 transects of the Great South Bay, totaling 60,480 observation points. From these point data, rasters showing the spatial distribution of bottom dissolved oxygen were generated using an interpolator in a GIS. A unique raster is provided for each day of the survey. Water, bed sediment, and biota were sampled in selected streams from Butte to near Missoula, Montana, as part of a monitoring program in the upper Clark Fork Basin of western Montana. The sampling program was led by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The lateral blast, debris avalanche, and lahars of the May 18th, 1980, eruption of Mount St. Helens, Washington, dramatically altered the surrounding landscape. Lava domes were extruded during the subsequent eruptive periods of 1980-1986 and 2004-2008. During 2017, U.S. Forest Service contracted the acquisitions of airborne lidar surveys of Mount St. Helens and upper North Fork Toutle River basin, part of a larger 2017-2018 survey of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The Edwards aquifer is a karst aquifer system that is a primary water source for a large part of central Texas including the city of San Antonio, Texas. These vector geospatial data represent the geographic extent of the contributing zones for the Northern, Barton Springs, and San Antonio segments of the Edwards aquifer. The contributing zone is defined as the drainage area of the Edwards Plateau that contributes surface water to the Edwards aquifer recharge zone. Stabilizing the eastern, migratory population of monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus) is expected to require substantial habitat restoration on agricultural land in the core breeding area of the Upper Midwestern U.S. Previous research has considered the potential to utilize marginal land for this purpose because of its low productivity, erodible soils, and high nutrient input requirements. In June 2018, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) collected geophysical measurements to help evaluate the suitability of a proposed landfill site for disposing mine-waste materials in Fredericktown, Missouri. Geophysical methods were used to evaluate and characterize the unconsolidated sediment (i.e., regolith) above the crystalline bedrock as well as determine depth bedrock. The U.S. Geological Survey, in collaboration with American Rivers and other partners, conducted a monitoring program beginning in 2010 to track river response to a series of dam removals on the Patapsco River intended to restore anadromous fish habitat in the watershed. Dam removals included the November 2010 removal of the Simkins dam, a 3.3 m tall and 66 m wide dam, with a reservoir sediment volume of ~67,000 cubic meters. As part of the dam removal monitoring program, three USGS streamgaging stations were established in late 2010 along the mainstem of the Patapsco River to estimate flow and suspended sediment-transport for constraining sediment budgets. The USGS Wyoming-Montana Water Science Center (WY–MT WSC) completed a report (Sando and McCarthy, 2018) documenting methods for peak-flow frequency analysis following implementation of the Bulletin 17C guidelines. The methods are used to provide estimates of peak-flow quantiles for 66.7-, 50-, 42.9-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, 1-, 0.5-, and 0.2-percent annual exceedance probabilities (AEPs) for selected streamgages operated by the WY–MT WSC. This data release presents peak-flow frequency analyses for selected streamgages in and near Powell County, Montana, that were based on methods described by Sando and McCarthy (2018).
