A three-dimensional hydrogeologic framework model (3D HFM) of the westernmost western Snake River Plain (WSRP) aquifer system was prepared to represent the subsurface distribution and thickness of four hydrogeologic units. The primary source of data for the 3D HFM was lithologic data from a total of 291 well-driller reports. These data were then processed using Rockware Rockworks17 three-dimensional modeling software. This dataset consists of five comma-delineated CSV files containing well information: location, lithology, well construction, aquifer, and comments. It is one of three related datasets.

In 2004, about 90 migrating elk drowned after attempting to cross thin ice on the Mores Creek arm of Lucky Peak Lake upstream of the Highway 21 bridge. To better understand the depths over a range of reservoir pool elevations in the Mores Creek Arm, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Lucky Peak Power Plant Project, conducted high-resolution multibeam echosounder (MBES) bathymetric surveys on the Mores Creek arm on Lucky Peak Lake. The MBES data will assist reservoir managers and wildlife biologists with regulating reservoir water surface elevations (WSE) to support successful big game migration across Mores Creek on Lucky Peak Lake. Data collection provided nearly 100 percent coverage of bed elevations...

The CED has had success in tracking implementation of conservation actions for terrestrial at-risk species, and can develop systems to monitor the implementation of and inform effectiveness of conservation, restoration, and recovery actions for aquatic at-risk species as well. Pursuant to the Regional Priority Goal to Recover listed cutthroat trout and improve or maintain the conservation status of other cutthroat trout and Arctic grayling populations, the CED Team proposes to develop a framework and modules that displays important resource layers/values important for biological planning and conservation design in addition to collecting information about recovery actions that may improve habitat and/or reduce threats...

The primary source of data for the 3D HFM was lithologic data from a total of 291 well-driller reports. These data were then processed using Rockware Rockworks17 three-dimensional modeling software. The data released here are grouped into three datasets: (1) An ASCII text file of the 3D HFM containing XYZ data. (2) Comma-delineated CSV files containing well information including lithology. (3) An MP4 video file showing the 3D HFM model as it is revealed by slices and then rotated.

In 2009, the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho released and implemented the Kootenai River Habitat Restoration Master Plan. This plan aimed to restore, enhance, and maintain the Kootenai River habitat and landscape to support and sustain habitat conditions for aquatic species and animal populations. In support of these restoration efforts, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, conducted high-resolution multibeam echosounder bathymetric surveys, velocity surveys, and collected images of substrate in the Lower Meander Reach (RM 143 - 145.5) and Straight Reach (RM 151 - 152). This data release contains bathymetry, velocity, and substrate data from surveys performed on the Kootenai River...

This project supports the analysis of the west-wide (and cross-border, as the project involves samples from across southern Canada as well) analysis of wolverine gene flow and population structure. Building upon previous occupancy surveys and tissue sample collection conducted through collaborative work between the Service and the Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA), this project proposes to provide funding for a quantitative geneticist at the University of Montana to analyze wolverine genetic data, conduct two workshops with State and provincial experts, conduct landscape-scale genetic connectivity assessments, and publish a peer-review manuscript.PI: Erin Landguth erin.landguth@gmail.comPI/Funding...

Scouring of streambed material surrounding bridge structures is a leading cause of bridge failure in the United States. Damages resulting from bridge failure oftentimes lead to financial burdens and loss of life. To date, there has been no comprehensive evaluation of the current (2016) effectiveness of the guidance or overall long-term performance of bridge-scour countermeasures provided in the Federal Highway Administration, Hydraulic Engineering Circular No. 23, Bridge Scour and Stream Instability Countermeasures. To that end, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, obtained bathymetric, topographical, and other data at 20 of the surveyed sites across the United States...

The Conservation Efforts Database (CED) is in the process of collecting information related to conservation efforts implemented in the sagebrush biome. This data will predominantly covers the time from 2009-2018. It is our hope to utilize this information and partner with USGS to investigate if/how these efforts are related to greater sage-grouse population trends being developed as part of a larger Population Monitoring Framework that FWS is involved with. Results of this evaluation would help inform which populations/areas may be receiving a larger conservation benefit from action implemented as well as if changes in trends are related to conservation efforts or other environmental factors. This effort is in support...

The intent of this project was to create a directory of academic climate change scientists that focus on the North Pacific Coast of North America—including California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, and Alaska. The University of Washington developed the California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho portion of the directory and Alaska Coastal Rainforest Center developed the British Columbia and Alaska portion of the directory. Funding was provided by the North Pacific Landscape Conservation Cooperative (NPLCC) and the Northwest Climate Science Center (NWCSC). The intended audience for this directory ranges from individual parties involved in climate change adaptation, to Landscape Conservation Cooperative...

The USGS, in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, surveyed the bathymetry within an area of about 500 acres of American Falls Reservoir between River Miles 713 and 714 during the week of August 6-8, 2019. The bathymetric survey provided high resolution detail of a proposed treatment area for an aeration system that is being developed to support water quality during the American Falls spillway concrete repair project and possibly thereafter. The Water Quality Restoration Plan detailing this effort is an appendix of the of the Final Environmental Assessment (EA) in conjunction with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance process.

The USGS, in cooperation with the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes, surveyed the bathymetry of Blackfoot Reservoir in 2011 to determine temporal changes due to sedimentation and other factors, and to improve the overall accuracy of the stage-capacity table. Bathymetric surveys of high accuracy and resolution are possible through advances in instrumentation, notably a multibeam echosounder (MBES). An MBES coupled with real-time kinematic global positioning systems (RTK-GPS) has advantages over traditional techniques for surveying reservoir bathymetry, such as single-beam echosounders, acoustic Doppler profilers, or soundings, because they can provide more coverage of the reservoir bed and real-time data corrections. The topography...

These data are for a geochronologic study of emplacement ages for plutons of the Cretaceous Idaho batholith and detrital zircon ages for metasedimentary rocks, west-central Idaho. Zircon from six samples of discrete plutons across a regional transect were dated by sensitive high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP). SHRIMP U-Pb ages of igneous rocks connect the igneous activity to structural history, crustal depths, and origins of epigenetic gold-silver-antimony-tungsten±mercury mineral deposits. Zircon from four samples of metasedimentary rocks in the southern part of the central Idaho mineral province were dated—three by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS) methods and one by SHRIMP...
